Guitar Center is sponsoring another blues guitar competition - who woulda thunk it? - and they have a bunch of Joe Bonamassa backing tracks you can filch:

I play along with stuff like that sometimes, anything that keeps you playing is a positive. Bonamassa makes me jumpy though - I don't know if I've ever heard another guitarist who:

A) Seems like a pretty nice guy;
B) has such great technical skills and such a wide variety of melody-generating tricks;
C) STILL manages to sound like he'd rather be... alphabetizing his shoelaces or something.

Bro, if it's free, it ain't the blues.

Ya gotta suffer to play the blues.  Ya gotta loose everythang to play the blues.

You gotta have two names before your surname ta play the blues... :tard:

My take on Bonamassa is that he's a skilled instrumentalist and a pretty fair singer whose connection with the blues is on an intellectual rather than an emotional or economic level.  Middle class kid, child-prodigy-ish early career, with full parental support of his pursuit of his dream, that kinda thing.  He chose the blues, the blues didn't choose him.

That's probably it - he never sounds like he's actually been sad, or angry, or depressed.... maybe he needs a drug habit and the bad women that come included in the accessory pack.  :redflag:

It may be that Joe's seen tough times - but I don't hear it in his playing.  For all I know, he been down so long, down don't bother him - maybe his woman done him wrong - but his playing sounds often sounds mannered, like a recital, not a testimony.
