One thing that seems quite spooky to me, and is virtually unknown to people (BECAUSE EVERYTHING THEY KNOW COMES FROM TELEVISION; ahem) is that General Electric is the second-largest defense contractor in the United States, and consequently makes tens of billions of dollars every year the Iraq occupation/War on Terror continues. General Electric also owns NBC and MSNBC - and those are supposed to be the liberal ones.... In the year 2000, the then-CEO of NBC, Jack Welch, called the senior political reporters of NBC into his office, and told them that it was better for GE if George Bush was elected President - Meet the Press host Tim Russert used two shows to berate the Democrats for "holding up" the election results, and stated that the Supreme Court would be negligent not to "decide" the election, though there were still uncounted votes. Welch is proud of using "his" network to help GE, he brags about it as being a smart business practice in his autobiography, "Winning." Russert subsequently signed a new 40-million dollar contract.
