For why no 1st fret marker with Trapezoid inlays?

Because Gibson says so that's why. I really don't know. Standards have traps that start at the third, and customs have blocks that start at the first. I guess W just follows suit for tradition's sake.  :dontknow:

I think it may be tradition to include them as well. The things are largely decorative, so you can live without them pretty easily. I know I do. Stand up an play, then tell me whether you need the things. I mean, if you need a marker to find the first fret, you've got a lot more problems than how the things are marked. Side markers are all you need for practical purposes unless you wanna decorate. At that point, all bets are off.

Now wait a second. I didn't intend on this becoming a philosophical discussion, but are you suggesting the fretboard markers elude to numbers bearing a non-linear, cyclical relationship??  Sweet mercy, man. Where's my scotch?

I too prefer the clean look of no markers, actually I think it was you that sold me on it.

If rock that if I could get the larger, oblong markers like the gecko necks can have.

If we were talking about run-of-the-mill production guitars, then yeah. They need all the help they can get. Dots, blocks, traps, stars, birds, etc.  But, the draw of a Warmoth part is the unusual/exotic woods they make available. Why would anybody want to blemish that stuff? Costs a pile, and the markers are unnecessary. So, I'm a no-marker guy.

If you're going to mark up the fretboard, may as well be as blatant as possible (to be fully practical, the numbers should be inverted).  I'll bet Mr. Becker didn't need fret markers but I'm sure they are of some help with the whole hand/eye thing.
