Hi Folks
I have one of these on the side of a guitar.
Similar to this Warmoth product:
http://www.warmoth.com/Football-Side-Jack-Plate-Chrome-P818C68.aspx

Darned thing keeps having the set screws go loose, and the ends pop up. I've already packed the screw holes with toothpick scraps, glued that in, then redrilled the holes.

But I was wondering if anyone knows a gasket type of material that could go between the jackplate and the guitar body - that won't degrade/mark the finish. I've contemplated cutting up a piece of a pickguard to size, but then thought of the old cork gasket material that was used on cars.... or maybe some thin rubber?  :dontknow:

I've tried seeing an Ibanez or the like that would have a similar jackplate & see what they've done. I suppose I could also gently heat the jackplate and try bending it to a more curved shape too...

Thoughts?

Lotsa folks use felt as an isolator for strap buttons.  Maybe that, and some longer screws?

Oh yeah, felt. Forgot about that - and as an old clarinet player I should've remembered that stuff! Thanx for that.  :icon_biggrin:

Throw away the screws that came with it, go to the hardware store and get some 1" stainless steel woodscrews, whatever will barely fit through the holes. Better yet, buy the ones that won't go through the holes and drill the holes bigger. I have been known to stick #8 NECK screws in a drill to file the heads down so they fit into strap buttons - I don't like stuff falling off. Parts makers have this stuff made to order for them, they just repackage it for sale and throw in some screws that can be frankly ridiculous. !/4" Chinese potmetal screws that literally crumble under the screwdriver are not going to do it. Find the weird dusty old hardware store with aisles and rows and rows of screws, it's out there.

Thanx for the advice Stubby. I'll rouse up some longer screws. But I want to place some material between the jackplate & the body (body has some nice finish on it) and the felt seems the way to go there.
