Flush Mount Batter Box Rout Option

One reason I've never gotten a batter y box (and put the 9v under the pickguard) is because I didn't like the way they sit proud of the plane of the back.

i've thought about adding a piezo pickup to a guitar and thought about trying to mount it to the control cover on the back. not sure how easy that would be if it were possible at all, but if it could be done i think it would look more clean than a hole in the guitar body itself.

This is something that I could do very easily in one of my wood control covers.  I have considered doing it in my warmoth, but instead, I just mounted it inside the cavity with one of those springy 9 volt clips.  I have had the same battery for a year, without having to change it!!  But if someone wanted a battery box in their cover, I could flush mount it to a wood cover.  I guess I could do it with a plastic cover, but I don't think the plastic is thick enough to flush mount the box.  I make my wood cover thicker in the middle, with a mounting lip, so there would be some material to mount the box to and recess it.

If you want a battery box to sit flush, it isn't anything you can't handle with a router or a dremel with a router base and some router bits!  I'm all for recessing everything on a guitar, including the neck plate, the string ferrules and the battery box!

I agree with what you're saying there BB, but has anyone measured how much clearance is under a typical Warmoth body from the bottom of the battery box rout? I mean, if you recess the battery box lower, you'll need to rout the cavity it sits in lower, right? And what about the supplied screws - if you recess the box a fraction lower is that going to cause a screw to pierce the other side?

Not a chance, those screws are stubby.  I think this would be a cool feature.  Not that the battery box bugs me.
