Floyd Rose Nut Sand or Shim

Does anyone know if you can simply have the shelf cut high and sand (or plane) down the shelf to the level you want?  My hope is to avoid the shims, which just seem a bit odd to do in guitar building. 

Does Suhr or ESP use shims on the FR locking nuts?

I don't know offhand but I know the sales people can help ya with that. Give them a ring Monday morning.

Haven't seen that done but it should be fine.
