Floyd Nut questions

When I ordered my body, I originally had planned on going all out and building a neck with binding, but I am having trouble coming up with the funds for such.  I ordered an original floyd trem with my body, and they sent me the r3 nut. Does this mean that the bridge is already configured for the R3 setup? Because I'm probably going to end up getting a way cheaper neck without binding, what do I need to do to make sure the bridge and nut are in check? I assume I will have to buy a the r4 nut? Will I have to change something in the bridge as well?

The R2, R3, R4, and R5 are for your nut width on the neck. If your neck is 1 5/8 at the nut you'll want the R2, if it's 1 11/16 and you want narrow string spacing you'll want the R3. If it's 1 11/16 and you want standard string spacing you'll want the R4, and if you have a 1 3/4 nut width you'll want the R5. The tremolo unit itself should be the same regardless. Again, the width of your neck determines which nut you're gonna want. If you put an R3 on a neck made for an R4, it'll work if you absolutely want it to, but the edges won't be flush with the sides of the neck/fingerboard and you could run into problems with string spacing and placement over the frets.

Ok so theres nothing in the tremolo that would be different? And I was told that the r3 is for bound necks.

When you buy a Floyd Rose from Warmoth - you are given the choice of which nut you want.

Warmoth says R3 is good for necks with binding. But as almost everything else this is a personal choice. If in doubt why not order both and try them out?

This is what Warmoth says on a Floyd Rose page:

R2 For 1-5/8" Nut width
R3 For 1-11/16" Nut width, narrow string spacing (good for necks with binding)
R4 For 1-11/16" Nut width, standard string spacing
R5 For 1-3/4" Nut width

As for the bridge itself it depends on which radius you have chosen. Please refer to this thread: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=1983.0 for more info on shimming the bridge if necessary.

those nuts have a different radius , The R3 is 12" and the R4 is 10"  though for me I can live with the difference as R3 is a wee too tight for me

The Warmoth page on string nuts says all the Floyd nuts they stock are 10" radius
