Hey there,

It's been a long long time since I've strung up a trem like this for the first time and I definitely never did it with locking tuners, so are there any tips 'n' tricks
to blocking the trem into place when stringing it up for the first time?

Also any tips on adjustment of the springs would be welcome.

I'm guessing 2 springs for Ernie Ball 9s?

Thanks,

Steve

OK ...

After sleeping on it for 2 nights I'm gonna guess that I need a block of wood that will wedge behind the trems block, and allow the trem to be level with the top of the body.
Tape the wood block in place and tape the trem to the wood block also.
String it up and then put the springs in place, remove the tape and tighten the claw until it's close to letting the wood block drop out or actually does let it drop out.

Then wang about a bit and adjust for tuning.

Still ... any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

That's pretty much it.  Just make a tapered block so you wont have to mess with its thickness to get the bridge level.  I wouldn't tape the block though, its not really necessary.  It's also a good time to intonate the bridge before removing the block.

same here.  tapered block.

I also attached a thin piece of rubber (kinda like mouse pad consistancy) to the underside of the wilke where it could come incontact with the guitar.  This also helps for when my 11 year old is playing and get "aggressive" with his whammy.

I used all three of the stock springs and adjusted their tension (amount they are streched) to achieve the desired results.

My guitar isn't routed out to float so I have mine resting flat on the body.  Only using 2 springs running from the outside corner of the claw to the 2 holes closest to the center of the trem. Kind of a V shape. No reason really other than I saw the back of Eddie Van Halen's guitar and that's how he had his springs. I figured if it's good enough for him who am I to argue? hehe!!
