Thanks again to all of you that gave me the pointers and encouragement to do this! There hasn't been a lot of time lately to work on the guitar but I get an hour or two here and there. I've spent the last month recovering from my 4th knee surgery....but...I got the body shaped the way I like it. I added the contours for comfort although I didn't make them as "deep" as say, a Strat or something. I  was kinda nervous about taking away that much wood. I covered the body with way too much filler, and man what a mess. Messy going on, and really dusty coming off. I sanded the filler to 320 grit. Then I put on some color. This went pretty well, and overall I'm pleased. It certainly could be better, but hey, it's my first try at this so I'm not gonna stress over it. There are some places where the grain of the wood shows it's texture. So far, the red and amber lacquers haven't filled that up, but I can't bear the thought of taking the color off to add more filler. I'm hoping the next coats of clear will flatten the surface. From 5 feet away it looks good. And I could always refinish it later, right? Hopefully soon I'll get a real camera and I won't have to use the one in the phone.

The burst on the neck looks awesome! Molten. Finishing is like black magic to me; you've certainly got my respect for taking it on and, by the looks of things, for knocking it out of the park. Looking forward to seeing more!

That grain fill certainly is a mess. I've found depending on the wood it usually takes 2 passes to get happy, sometimes 3 for woods like Swamp Ash or Mahogany. But, the flatter it is, the less work the paint job is. Surface prep is everything. Otherwise, you end up shooting a coat and sanding it back repeatedly until you've gone through a quart and a half of finish just to get it even.

Hey this looks fantastic - I'm sure this is something Billy Gibbons would be happy to play too! (Albeit with .00000007 gaugers on it)

I think it looks great! Congratulations on going balls-to-the-wall on your first build. Really excited to see this one take shape. Love the body shape, and the color is absolutely gorgeous. The neck is what really gets me. She's a pretty gal, all right.  :yourock:

Very cool, the shape is really unique.... :icon_thumright:

On an unrelated note, I used to work for that company(On the tote)for 25 yrs...
