I have been thinking quite a bit of what my first build is going to be.
And before I buy some expensive body, I will try to build a less expensive guitar.

Thinking of my favourite band Iron Maiden, and one of my favourit guitarists, Dave Murray.
A white strat with a SSS config. SD Hot Rails in neck and middle, Cool Rails in bridge mounted on a white pearl pickguard.
non recessed Floyd Rose and a maple neck.

I guess this will work just fine for my project:

neck:

body:
http://www.warmoth.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=40865{8}118{12}194

And other parts as floyd, pups etc. etc. You know the drill!

Why the cool rails in the bridge? it's more single-coil sound than humbucker, isn't??? Put a hot rails on bridge... think it's better

The cool rails is more of a neck pickup, its going to be pretty bright in the bridge compared to the hot rails.

Is it?
The guy in the local guitarstore told me that it was even more humbucking than the hotrails ???
But I guess I'll take your advices!

Never played it, but I'm kind of guitar geek, and for the SD manual I had it wasn't that HB... But I lost it about 4 years ago, so I may be wrong, anyway, HB in single size, the Hot Raills is the hottest from SD... It's what I think you'll most enjoy!

Created by popular demand, Cool Rails™ use the same twin coil design as our Hot Rails™, but are wound to produce a clearer, brighter, and more dynamic sound. Hotter and louder than both the Vintage Staggered (SSL-1) Hot Stack® (STK-S2) pickups, Cool Rails are for players who need a louder, punchier, and fatter single-coil sound.

One of the highest output and most popular pickups we make. The two thin blades, strong ceramic magnet and powerful coil windings give you the incredible sustain and a fat, full sound that's needed for playing heavier rock music.

One of my Strats has a hot rails bridge and cool rails neck.  Great combo.  I also have a vintage rails in the middle just to round things out.

I seem to remember Dave Murray playing strats with full sized humbuckers in the bridge.  But I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Expect him to be 20+ guitars... He play with both full size humbucker and single-sized...

For a while there Murray was playing a Strat with a hot rails bridge...don't know if he had hot rails or cool rails in the neck, however.  I think it was the hot rails neck in the neck.

Both versions of Hot Rails (bridge & neck) have more output than the Cool Rails pickups http://www.seymourduncan.com/comparetones

Just make a guitar you like. Dave Murray has a lot of guitars with a lot of pickups, a lot of amps, a lot of effects and a lot of money...

His most famous guitar was the one he bought from Paul Kosoff (of Free)
I read an article on it a while ago, but can't find it back (it may have been in a magazine now I think of it)
anyway, it's a '57 strat and I believe that Fender built him a replica so he could retire the original..
