Finish on top of binding?

I've been reading through as many finishing threads I could to try and find the answer.  They all make reference to scraping color coats off binding but no mention of clear coats.  What's the proper method for finishing bound bodies?  I know there are some real finishing experts here.  Any help guys?

No need to scrape clearcoats off bindings.  Once the color's scraped and surface prepped for clearcoats, just shoot it.  Be careful during wetsanding, of course, because hard corners are easy to burn through.

Thanks.  I somehow missed that one in my searching.  So more nerve-wracking tedium in my future.  What do you use to scrape it?  I was thinking X-acto blade.

I use a utility razor blade like this.

The other really helpful tool to use doing this is one of these but go to Harbor Freight where you can get something very similar for $9.00.

Excellent.  I have dozens of various types of blades and I know I've got plenty of those.  Thanks for the tip on the magnifier.  I live right by Harbor Freight so I'll have to stop in there and grab one.
