So now im looking for pickups to go into my maple explorer i built a few months ago. Im looking for a good metallica pickup but im not ready to chop my guitar up and run my pickups off batteries so im wondering if anyone knows of any good Passive pickups for metallica like sound. any help is appreciated.  :headbang:

496R/500T :party07: That will get you the good metallica tone you are after. The bad metallica tone comes from the EMG's :headbang1:

now actually i found dragonfire 81 and 85 which sound pretty good, (according to reviews) and with the money i save i could have a tech install them for me,  :toothy10:

Were you just kidding about this?? If your gonna get shitty active pickups you might as well get the EMG's. They fit your budget and they get the tone you want.  :dontknow:

I never thought their tone was good or bad, it was just there and appropriate.  As far as when they started using EMGs, Cliff may have still been alive.  Kill 'em All we can all probably agree was EMG-free and I hardly think that was their best tone.  BTW, Kirk and James flip flop with actives and passives now and their tone sounds no different.

ok, i just got back from my music store and played a devlin inferno, ok guitar but I was absolutely blown away by the pickups :o, by the looks of it they are spitfire passive pickups, but i cant find anything about them on the internet. if anyone knows anything please, these pickups blew me out of the water and i would to find a pair even if it means buying that guitar.
