fill a strat trem cavity

I was actually thinking about doing that too, I would never use the trem, it can get in the way, and you get more sustain with a hardtail.

Do you know if that will work with a standard Strat Hardtail Bridge? Because the bridge its meant for is UGLY.  :sad1:

I don't see why that wouldn't work for other hardtail bridges. For string through hardtails, the only problem would be drilling holes for for string ferrules but that shouldn't be to difficult.

yeah it'll fill the cavity. pretty much to the top of the guitar. should be good for putting a hardtail over, but just remember that a trem cavity's top is off center. so there will be some space if you're just putting a normal strat hardtail over it.

you can see, right above the bridge, the space i mean

Why not just get another body and do it right?

lacking $150.  :dontknow: this guitar was given to me by a very good friend and i want to revamp it to our combined "if i had a custom guitar" specs. long story behind it. but i want to use this guitar and enjoy it. so im adding humbuckers and im getting a maple neck. that plus the finishing suplies is taking all the money i can spare right now.

I know you want to be difficult, but I'd say just put the trem bridge in and lock it down as someone suggested, and for go all the bs.  I really doubt you'll get more sustain from a fixed bridge as it has less mass than a trem bridge does...

My 2c - just add five springs and lock them down tight as can be, and be done with it, like Doug suggests. I don't think it will sound the same, but it'll be good enough for a cheapo axe and will at least stay in tune.
Then, next time, get a hardtail and enjoy long sustain, great tone, and super tuning stability.

Absolutely brilliant place to put a preamp!
I would have tried to put it under the pickguard, but right next to the trem cavity on the back? The man is an absolute genius!

Unrelated though, does anyone else think that that neck has a really nasty/unnatural color to it?
It's like dark orange or something.
