New idea....  :icon_scratch: Birdseye Maple.
Does anyone know how much you have to pay totally for an $185 Maple body with a Birdseye Maple top?

An all maple body will create a very trebly, shrill sound...using a core wood such as alder or swamp ash would offer more tonal balance and you could still retain that birdseye carved top.  Some folks on here might say body wood doesn't play a very large part in determining tone, but it definitely is an influence that can either flatter or harm the tone you may be after.  As a general rule, softer woods yield a warmer tone than harder woods.

go for all maple.
i can think of three great basses with all maple construction

I found a review and some soundclips for the Zon Robert Trujillo Signature, wich has a maple body. I really liked these soundclips.

Has the frets oxided or something?

Yes I think so, but it almost looks like mold! lots of rust and crap inside. I don't know what happened, but it was unders someones bed since the late '70s. the body, neck and finish are in great condition though.

Does it even work?  its looks like the monster thats hiding in my closet!  :laughing7:

Well... I think this bass is very UGLY... So, as you might have a HELLISH work with this, why not work a little more and try to make it look (at least) ok??  :icon_biggrin:

The finish looks great. Are you going to restore/repair the old pickups or are you going to have new ones made?

Just got my Maple G4 back from the store today!! :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1: And it sounds huge! :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1:
