Fiberglass body and Warmoth neck

I have finally begun my Guitar Kits USA kit guitar. I got the body on trade almost a year ago. I will be putting a Warmoth roasted maple neck on it. I got the 59' round back paddle head, two piece vintage modern construction. I love how the raw wood feels. I can't wait....

I will be cutting my own headstock of course. I have created a downloadable template for the paddle head. I don't know if anyone has made one so I thought I would. It will print to scale. There is a 1" X 1" block to help you determine if it is scale. The small area to the left is the curved transition part of the neck. There is a center line to aid with layout. Someone feel free to download this and make it sticky somewhere. Feel free to distribute.

I forget how to embed the link in text, so here is the link:

Here is the body I will be doing.

This should be a fun Fall/Winter project!

Looks like lots of fun, Ken.  I presume you'll be loading it with some pups of your own manufacture?  What's the actual plan for that?

Mayfly, I think the body is indeed small, but looks even more so because the paddle head is so much larger than the headstock that will eventually be cut out of it.

Heck no. Super Distortions all the way! :tard:  No, no, no..  That would be bad. I will be putting Kingston pickups in. They are one of the pickups found often on these models. The Kingstons are by far my favorite of all time. I'm actually going to be putting mini Kingstons in under the standard cover. I like the slightly and I mean slightly, tighter field. I might go with a Super Alnico in the bridge. At some point I may put a piezo under the bridge somehow. But I will worry about that later.

This should be a lot of fun. The kits are very nice and the finish on the body is superb. I've always wanted one. The originals often had necks that went south or they just didn't play as well as a modern instrument. The pickups in the originals were great but overshadowed by availability, instrument quality and the fact they didn't fit anything else. I solved that of course.

I am smitten so far with the roasted maple. I love raw wood on a neck. It will be interesting to see how it wears. I think it will be great. Now however I am leaning toward replacing a few necks. I like the thicker profiles and have a couple fatbacks. But lately the 59' seems to be right "in the pocket" feel wise.

Has anyone else here had experience with the fiberglass body kits?
