Found the naptha. Tortguard is undecided yet - that was purchased for the white or black finish project. It's not ugly, I'm just not sure what I want yet.

Wow, that's beauteous.  Is that mahogany? Is the white'ish strip a natural grain pattern, or did you "pop" it?

It is indeed natural - all I've done so far is wipe it with naptha. Ironically, I just realized I have all the hardware BUT the ferrules, as they're in the other body (and sanded flush).

That Mahogany looks great! The stripes gives it some character!
Here is a link for ferrules:

Unfortunately that scratch on the back is real. Gonna have to try to sand it down a bit. But it's a showcase screaming deal and it's on the back. And if that weren't enough it's a tele, and tele don't care. I bet when she started out Cindy Crawford had people try and airbrush out that mole on her face, and by the time she got big, wannabe's were having fake moles painted on for shoots.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, a very famous vip actually played that guitar!  :yourock:

Yeah - I thought about making a joke about Aaron's belt buckle but decided it might not be taken as a joke. I can live with it - the body was discounted and not sold as new. And I have sandpaper and the skunk stripe is pretty distinctive. I'll keep it.

I'm thrilled with how much that stripe popped under naptha.

Sweet, should call it the Mobius Strip.... :icon_thumright:

That should make sanding front and back easier

That joke is way too smart for this forum haha  :laughing3:  :laughing7:  :laughing11:

Awesome guitar, that stripe down the middle takes it from cool to absolutely incredible! Oiled-up and with the tortoise pickguard installed looks so nice. That is going to be a great guitar. And yea, who cares about a scratch on the back, no one can see it!

You may be surprised how smart a lot of this forum is...in some cases it may be stretching the modulus a bit but there you go... :laughing7:

I know it's a bit late since you posted this but using an iron to steam out that scratch should work.

Could I impose upon you to elaborate on this technique?

Yeah, might give that a shot. Had a little accident while hanging. It's all on the butt side.  Should work there too.

I put the pics in the old thread, but it's so old I should probably make a new one

Put a drop or two of water in the dent.  Let it soak in for a minute.  Damp cloth on top of the dent. Shoot steam out of a regular clothing iron for about 20 seconds. Should raise up, at least a little.  repeat as needed.  Let dry. Resand.

For small dings, replace the clothing iron with a soldering iron.  Keep the damp cloth between the iron and the wood.

The idea is to swell the compressed wood fibres.  Works fairly well actually.
