Fender Select Strat

I just noticed you can now get a Stratocaster from Fender with a flame maple top.  I much prefer my Warmoth, but it's nice to know that I saved over $600 building mine versus buying one from Fender.  And that's ignoring a whole set of features on my Warmoth that aren't available on the Fender (e.g., I love my SS frets).

Really? A set neck Strat? I can imagine that they offered a nice top before but I'm surprised about the set neck.

In any event, I just thought it was kind of funny that this just showed up after I explained to my better half that I was getting a Warmoth because you couldn't get a Fender dressed up with a figured maple cap.

Also, my apologies for apparently somehow screwing up the link.

Sweet Water triggers the naughty word filter. You can make a tinyurl and post that though.

Set necks strats & teles were made in the early 90's when they launched the Custom Shop. They had a FR pro or AM std tremolo, Honduras mahogany body with bookmatched maple top, Honduras mahogany neck and ebony or Br. rosewood fretboard with a matching color headstock. The radius was 12'' and they had H/S/S or H/H pickups. I had played with the strat and it was a great guitar. Round smooth cleans and a big sweet sound with overdrive.

The quality of the custom shop in the beginning was different. They were really making great sounding guitars, you didn't pay just for the name on the headstock. I'm guessing the quality decreased with the quantity of clients, I don't think they expected it would get so big. I had also played with a Collins telecaster and the sound was huge. The grains on the ash... the finish... the quailty was amazing. But they were very expensive guitars. Not many could afford them, that's why I tested them with every chance I got.

The select series are Fenders effort to hit the customers who are into Suhr's pro series, they are trying to get customers back. You can make the same guitar with quality parts with less money but not many want a no name guitar made with replacement parts...
