Hi all, what do those of you who own and play Chambered Teles favour in the pickup department? Vintage,Hot,Noiseless, whatever! Views from owners/players much appreciated! Thanks.

Whoa... totally depends on a lot of things.

Have used - 52ri Fender set, that same bridge pu along with a 57 Classic, P90 at the neck and Burstbucker 3 at the bridge (on two tele's), and now a Fat cat at the neck and Fralin +5% hybrid at the bridge.

Next one... minihumbucker at the neck, Fralin +10 hybrid at the bridge.

So how do Chambered`s sound with higher output pickups? I perceive mine to be fairly bright acoustically,it sounds good with broadcaster spec pickups, but just wondered how it would be with more oomph!

Check these tele sets:

How do you want it to sound? Without any info there, people are just gonna say their own fave tele pickups.

Really just looking for all owners/players opinions as these are not everyday guitars in the UK.I`m happy with mine as it is really, but you always wonder "what if" don`t you ???
Mine is Ash/Ash with r/w fretboard.

Hi edward2b,

I'm in the UK too and have a chambered tele - I love it, it's so light and resonant. I've got a set of standard Fralins and they're great - really traditional clear but solid tone. I'm using a 4-way switch but don't really use the '4th' position much. Funnily enough I'm planning on swapping out the Fralins as I feel I need more power, so I'm going to have a go with a mini-humbucker and a hotter bridge pickup, possibly a DiMarzio Area T or T hot.

Enjoy the search!

Me too! But it's going to have to wait as I'm busy at the moment with my current build-in-progress, a Warmoth Strat with chambered swamp ash body, all-rosewood neck, Callaham hardware and DiMarzio rails. It's all fun!

It certainly is! I built a Swamp ash/CBS r/w fretboard strat last year,it`s not chambered tho`.Sounds really good too! Both it and Tele are in the gallery section, see what you think!Cheers.

I have Seymour Duncans--a Lil '59 in the bridge and Hot for Tele Rhythm in the neck. They sound great. I just recently installed a 4-way switch so I can run them in series (very cool) and a push-pull pot for the '59. I can get 7 great tones out of this guitar! My luthier said, "I don't know if it's because of the chambers or what, but this configuration sounds better in this guitar than most that I do these mods on." That made me happy.

My next chambered guitar will have Quarter Pounders. On order already. :laughing7:

SonicWizard, that`s pretty much the pair I might try in mine, good to hear it`s a good pairing! Is your`s quite bright acoustically?

I don't have a tele, I'm a strat guy, but one thing I noticed immediately about the chambered bodies is that they're richer/louder than their solid predecessors. So, you end up with a better tone almost no matter what you do. But, another thing I've noticed is that the newer pickups offered these days seem to be more sensitive to height adjustments. It could just be my imagination, so I'll be interested in what others have to say on the subject, but with very small changes in height I'm hearing dramatic differences in tone that I don't think I used to hear in the past with other pickups. It used to be I'd adjust height to balance output, but now I adjust for tone. The output level changes, but not as much as the character. With a more resonant body, the pickup is vibrating more than it used to, so that might be part of it. It also might be pickup design - a lot of the noiseless pickups these days are using lower gauss magnets so the field strength is lower and has less effect on the strings. But, who knows? There are always so many variables involved that it's nearly impossible to draw any reliable conclusions.
