Hello there!

I just ordered both an unfinished neck and body from Warmoth. I just found out it will be a while before they arrive but I thought I'd do some homework first.

I can't find anything regarding their prep-work straight from the factory other than they apply a sealer on the necks.  Are they ready to finish?  I plan on finishing both the neck and body with truOil, is there any prep work I need to do?  (basswood body, maple/rosewood neck)  Sealing? Sanding?

Thank you!

OK, I dont know about the necks but I asked them about the bodies and the answer:

2. Our bodies are sanded to 220 grit and redy to be filled and finished.
3. No sealing has been done to the wood.

I'm guessing the same will apply for the necks.

Cheers - Ed

You can finish right out of the box, but if it makes you happy (and it makes a lot of folks happy), you can hit it with 220 to smooth it off all over before you apply your choice of finish.  I Tru-Oil'd a neck right out of the box and it came out perfect.

I hit them one time with 220 to make sure any trace oils from handling are off of them first.
look at it this way, the better your prep the better your finish, after all you cannot make chicken soup out of chicken shit
