hey guys this is my review of the EMG Select series SEHG humbucker.
first off im gonna talk about how the pickup is built. its black. It has 3 wires, red (single coil), white (humbucker), and Black (ground) built like all other closed top emgs, this pickup is passive so you dont need a 9 volt to power it. built like a rock, if you threw it at someone it would probably knock them out, so it does have a little more mass than regular pickups. wax potted but there still a decent amount of feedback if your not to careful with them.
Labguitar rating: 9 (extra mass could affect overall feel of guitar, built like a tank, easy wiring)
secondly sound. THIS IS NOT A POWERED EMG, THIS IS NOT A DEATH METAL PICKUP!!! if you want to play screamo-death-gothic-grunge-hip-hop metal this is not for you it is only rated at 8.75 ohms for humbucker and 4.35 for single. now what this pickup is great at is cleans. i replaced my muddy bridge pickup in my maple explorer and man does this thing sing, i am shocked at the clean tones i am getting, even dialed in on a super crunch setting it still is amazingly clean. this pickup would also be amazing in the neck position. One of the only reasons this pickup gets a bad rap is because people think all emgs are heavy metal pickups, but the truth is powered pickups are what make most heavy metal sound, so if you want a metal sound dont skimp and thing these are gonna be a good substitute because they arent and nothing else sounds like powered emgs.
with these i mainly play hard rock, punk and blues.
Labguitar rating: 8 (overall not very powerful, amazing cleans)
NOT AN EXTREME METAL PICKUP!!!
