EMG Afterburner Issue

I've got it wired like the schematic says, and I've checked the net, but I have a problem.

When I turn it on, I lose the signal. If I hit the strings hard, it comes through, but cuts out quickly. Almost like a noise gate gone mad (I'm hoping this detail is useful to those more knowledgeable than me, i.e. 99% of you). I know it's not the battery, but that's about all I know.

I'm using 2 Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups >  5-way > volume pot > Afterburner.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm beginning to think the unit is just shot.

I had exactly the opposite and had one that wouldn't turn off so I had to rig up my own bypass switch. If you're sure the wiring is all spot on and the battery is good (have you checked the battery clip - sometimes they can have cr8ppy connections?) - my experience would back you up on thinking it's fubarred.

that sounds like a low voltage issue.
Do you have a voltage/ohm meter?
If so you can check to make sure the voltage is at least 7 volts.

I would check to make sure the black ground wire is making good connection with the grounding point as well.

How do I check the voltage of the unit? I have the meter, just don't know how to check the unit. The battery is showing adequate voltage.

Check the red probe on the red conector with the battery connected then check on the different pots with the black probe
