Hey guys

I got myself a EHX Small Stone a while back and it is the nicest sounding pedal I own, but unfortunately it doesn't handle the normal boss style 9v power suppliers and I can never remember to buy 9v batteries or buy the opposite polarity power supply when i'm in town.

Would simply cutting the wires and soldering them back together in with the opposite wires work?

Yes it should.  If you have a multimeter (everyone should) you can check it to see if it is center pos or neg.  The EHX pedal should have it listed right next to the 9 V in what the center is (+ or -)  But cutting it and soldering back together with the wires swapped will change the polarity.

:icon_scratch: I run my EHX pedals with boss power supply w no problems. They both are negative center pin type...

How can you determine polarity with a multimeter?  What I mean by that is, how do you perform the test and what will you see?

Use the black lead in the center and the red on the outside.  If the reading is Positive, it is center negative.  If the reading is negative, it is center positive.  Use the DC V setting on the meter.  This is for the power supply, the pedal you can check if you open it up.  It should have a diagram of the polarity of the power jack on the stompbox near where you put the jack into the box.

Usually in the upper corner of the meter screen there will be a positive or a negative symbol.

Also, the 1 Spot company makes a bunch of adapters that can be used to power just about anything 9v - I like old DOD effects that need the 1/8" pin, and even sometimes those have to be reversed too! I usually keep a few reverse adapters, 1/8", battery-clip, and the large barrel size around. Elderly.com has them.
