Does anybody have any examples of early fender custom colors?
I mean the ones from before the fender color charts.

I am planning to build a 50's strat replica - Tonar Style:). The thing is, I want to go for a more unusual color while still keeping it technically hystorically correct.

There is a really cool example in 'the fender book' (by tony bacon and paul day) of a 57 Strat with a darker blue finish - not lake placid or ice - and gold plated hardware. it doesn't mention what the name of the color was, just that it used to be owned by Homer Haynes and now part of David Gilmours collection.

another example is an early sherwood green one from '55

(I took the last 2 pics at the holy grail exposition and the dallas guitar show a couple of years ago)

Another option, maybe not so rare would be blond with a gold pg
(sorry, could only find a  replica/relic made by a dutch builder of this one)

The old standby...

ReRanch.com has most of the Fender custom "car colors" in rattle cans:

I have a 1990 Fender American Std with a gun metal blue finish.  I noticed that Fender stoped offering that color soon after I purchased it.  It's definately not ice, lake placid or daphnie blue.  Has more gray in it.  I think it's a cool color.  Haven't seen any around like it.  I doubt that color was available in the '50s tho, but it might give you an approximation as to what you'd like.  I'll see if I can post a pic for you...

I kinda like this color with the gold PG. I don't really care for the relic style in this particular instance.
