Dunlop String breakage.....A+ customer service, WOW

I thought I would share my experience with Dunlop strings. I month or so ago I purchased a few sets of strings by various makers, it's a cheep way to get different tones. Anyways, I bought some GHS Boomers, EXP's and Dunlop Heavy Core strings for drop tuning. All strings were 10-52's and since I play 99% of the time in drop tuning I was anxious to try the Dunlops. So I remove the old strings and install the new strings and winding them so they are loose. I stretch the strings (I don't go crazy just a couple light passes) I get to the high E string and as I grab the string I barely have enough pressure to depress the skin and snap. Needless to say I was a little pissed, I've changed hundreds of strings and this was the first time this has happened. It was kinda eating eating at me so I decided to send them an email explaining the situation and how I was looking forward to trying the strings. It was a nice email and just told them that I wasn't sure if I'd buy them again but wanted to let them know of the situation. A few days later I was contacted and after a few emails back and forth they sent me 6 packs of the Heavy Core strings and 6 packs of standard nickel 10-52's. Needless to say I wasn't expecting that and thanked them quite a few times.

I finally installed a set of the heavy core strings last night and honestly, I really like them.....which is good cause I got enough strings to last quite a while. I've never tried their nickel strings so those will have to wait a while.

Huh, interesting.  That sort of customer service is also great for business - you posted this online, and now everybody who reads it will be that much more likely to buy from Dunlop in the future.  Other companies need to learn from this.

Thats wonderful.  Its the "catch more flies with honey" approach.  Thanks for sharing, good to know they are a decent company to work with.

It's the only way I'm happy to be influenced by advertising - when people relate first hand experience with a company that behaves well. I'm very happy with my current strings but may now take a look at what Dunlop has to offer...!

I bought a box of 10 sets of Dunlops recently and I was happy with them on all of my guitars, although I never really compared them closely to anything else.

So far I'm happy with the strings, they seem to work well with the drop tuning a little better than the 10-52's.....the heavy core ones I have are 10-48. If I can stretch a month between string changes I wont have to buy strings for year.....although I would like to try a set of .11's.

This was the first time I tried Dunlop strings so when the string broke I wasn't to happy, I like the fact that EXP's give you an extra high E string.

Dunlop went above and beyond what I expected, I actually never thought I would hear from them or get a "sorry to hear that" email. There are so many companies out there who don't really care about the customer, only their bottom line.

To be honest im just tempted to send bogus emails to all the string companies in the hope of free strings...  :evil4:

:laughing11:  I thought about that too.....but I just couldn't do it, I'm happy with 12 free sets.

That makes me sad. I can't believe you would actually go to such lows as to lie about broken strings, in order to hopefully get a free buck out of a corporation that has shown that it is dedicated to giving customers a good experience.

I thought the same thing!  :evil4:
