Ahhhh .... Finally I get it! ... and was forced to get it out of desperation.
I had always thought the drinking straw trick was meant to be a permanent installation / mod to the guitar, but maybe not?
No matter now. This morning, absolute desperation forced me to find my plastic bag of heat shrink tubing
to get a set of Savarez classical strings onto my nylon strat. I thought I'd seen squirrely string tops before but
these are totally outrageously cantankerous.
Anyway ...
Slip the tubing or straw through the saddle slot down through the bridge plate and out through the ferrule.
Grab with one hand and slip the string end into the straw and push it up and badabing! There you have it.
Faster than the explanation you've got squirrely string top in hand pulling it towards the head stock.
