Hello Everyone!
Hopefully this hasn't been answered elsewhere, but I did do a search (just no luck/soooo many posts). I picked up a new swamp ash tele (first pic) from Warmoth, and now just trying to figure out how I'm going to stain it to look like driftwood (second pic).
Here are the steps I think I need to do, just wondering if I'm on the right track, or the order is off at all:
- Sand to 220/320 (not sure if I need to dampen and re-sand here at all)
- Sanding Sealer, sand to 220 (2 coats)
- black tinted grain filler, sand to 220 (2 coats)
- Sealer
- driftwood stain/pickling here
- Sealer
- clear finish (tru-oil?)
I guess my main question is do I do the stain/pickling after the first sanding and before the grain filling (then seal, grain fill)?
Attached is a 3rd pic, this is kinda similar to what I'm looking to do.
