Hey. got the body today.. could'nt wait to get to work on it.  Still waiting for the neck. but thats okay. I got all the wiring done in the body.
Just waiting to drill pilot holes for the mounting rings once I get the neck and make sure they're lined up properly.
It's nice to have it back.

Don't laugh. its the cleanest job I've ever done.  and the most secure.

Waiting for pilot holes.

Are you making any changes to this one, based on your experiences with the first one?  Different pickups, woods, neck size, fret size, etc?

why a korina neck? why not a wenge neck? that would feel and sound so much better... its imho a waste to use a korina neck, but ey, its your guitar... (and: I like it! strangely enough, I like it a lot)

Couldn't understand yet, is this body the original one or have you bought it to replace???

Sorry, I don't like that color

Well I didn't like the duncan '59 in the neck, it was a little too bassey and didn't have enough bite.  I have a tele deluxe with 2 p90s in it and I love the way it sounds in the neck so I got a phat cat instead of a '59.
And I got a Korina neck instead of a mahogany one because the last one sounded just a little too les pauly... and I wanted to add just a little more bite to it.  I've never heard a guitar with a wenge neck so thats why i didn't get one.

Fret size, contour .. all that is the same. Warmoth Pro, SS 6105, standard thin. Grover Rotomatics 18:1.

One weird thing...  I plugged the body into an amp to check to make sure it worked. and when I did the first one I ended up with a bit of a black scorch mark on the cap for the neck tone knob and the knob didn't work at all(cause i really sucked at soldering then).  I figured it was because I destoryed the cap or something.  Well I plugged it in this time and just tapped a quarter on the pole pieces to check to see if it worked and its hard to tell but I dont think the neck tone pot is working.... but nothing is scorched this time.  I wont really be able to tell until I get strings on it. but I'm just wondering what I could've done wrong when I followed the wiring diagram.

ah good for you..
glad you finally got a replacement for your beloved lp!
don't leave it in your open carboot again!!! :sad1:

no offence, but about the neck; kind of a lame arguement. you haven't heard a korina neck aswell. wenge just feels better. you say you dont want it to be so much like a les paulsound, but a korina neck will give you that almost same tone; its just as warm, just a tad more tight. added highs or something, haven't noticed it....

Agreed, a friend of mine that I had recorded some stuff with back in early 2002, was playing a gig down in Deep Elum. They were packing up for the night and left the gear van unattended and got wiped out. They took his most prized possession a red sparkle Dean Cadillac custom, his wife had ordered from the custom shop. He is still pissed to this day.

So please don't leave you gear unattended....

What happened was I was unloading gear from my car after practice and got distracted inside and forgot to go back out for the guitar. thus my door was still unlocked.

and as for the neck. I'm not making an argument orpheo. I went with a Korina neck over a mahogany one.  Wenge didn't even occur to me.. whats the big deal?
I have heard a korina necks. my friend has an old flying V with one, the guy has like 50 guitars.

Glad to hear you're able to replace your first one with this.  And with the P90 and the korina neck this one may even be better.  Was the old one flamed like that?

no it wasn't!

looks awesome eh?

Definitely,  I actually surprisingly really like that Dragonburst.  This is gonna be killer!  :icon_thumright:

Wenge is oily, smooth, but rough, and slicker than snot in a beer bottle.  Well in a good way.  It has a lot of presence in the mids, and it stands out more than a mahogany type wood does.  It would have definitely added more bite to the sound.  It is a little strange, but once you get used to it (5 or so minutes) it is very addictive to play on.

Dude! Nice finish....congrats on the new build. As for "Tone" ...Man I'm a newbie so I don't really know. It must be in the ear of the beholder.
Oh yeah keyless entry is a good thing.lol So lock that Damn door. :occasion14:

got the neck today. the whole thing is assembled now, I just need some files to file the bridge saddles and just a tiny bit in the nut.  Then I can string it up. adjust the truss rod, and drill the holes for the truss rod cover.  Then its done.

Assuming of course that I didn't screw up the wiring.
Its kind of weird actually, getting my guitar "back". even though its not the same guitar.  I find myself just looking at it.  Its like cloning a lost loved one or something.
maybe I like guitars too much.
pics: (sorry i only got a couple before the batteries in the camera died.
