With all those guitars, you could tune one to "F" or "D" and change keys once a week or so..... I remember reading an interview with Metallica and they were discussing this very thing, they realized that every song on their new album was in the same key (E) and wondering what they could do to make them sound distinct from each other. :icon_scratch:

Sounds really cool.

So, you can use the Phat Cat in conjunction with either the neck/bridge/both selectively?

Are you able to use the Phat Cat alone without either of the others?

Is it hum cancelling when used with either of the other pickups when those are split?

I'd be real curious to hear some clips, see some youtubage.

I actually have a 3 PU Epi SG where I replaced the PU's.

It now has a JB in the bridge, Phat Cat in the middle (with the stock Alnico2 magnets replaced with P90 correct 5's), and a mini HB in the neck.

Originally it came wired as standard Neck/Bridge 3-way toggle, 3 volumes and master tone. The middle PU was "always on" and controlled by it's volume, but that made using the middle PU really annoying (as to switch to it alone you had to turn it up and the others down).

I set it up so that the middle's V is a push/pull - down the middle PU is on the neck side of the 3-way; up it's on the bridge side. Not perfect, but more usable and flexible and I'm very happy with it this way.

That's also a way to wire up the middle pickup. I discovered that the middle pickup alone is almost useless for me. I prefer it blended with the rest. I get that p90 howl in the neck and p90-scream in the bridge with the p90 full on, the neck or bridgepickup split and the respective volumepot a bit closed, to lets say 1/3. That will not give me a major drop in output, but it will be humcanceling, p90-ish, and will sound great.

vice versa, the humbuckers split volumepot open and backing off the p90 volumepot will give me a great quacky tone.

Load & Reload were Eb, the previous (the good ones) albums were E.
