Hey everyone this came in today from Jay4321 for me to do a nitrocellulose finish on.  I’m going to do it in a vintage tinted natural finish for him.  I will post pictures so he can watch the progress.  This should be a real elegant vintage looking guitar when all is said and done.

Here we go Jay; I’ll get started tomorrow.

So Tonar, not to open a can of worms here, are you open for business? for us here?  Or did Jay bug you so much to do this?

Either way, can't wait to see the results

If you want a vintage style lacquer finish or a relic I’m your man!  Doors are open.  Send me an email.

Very cool for jay, looks like a one piece swampy...... :headbang:

Yeah it's a one-piece, that's how I roll.

Just some additional info about this project and where it's going. This will be a somewhat moderized version of a Telecaster Deluxe, which I've always been a kind of fan of. For those not all that familiar with Deluxe's, they were originally intended to be Fender's high-end guitar. You can see just by looking at the layout that it's essentially Fender's down-and-dirty take on the Les Paul. Of course it didn't really pan out like maybe they hoped, but there is a lot to like about the guitar overall - such as the simple "block of wood" look, ash body, and the Fender scale length. At the same time, there are a few areas for improvement and updates as far as I'm concerned. Here's the basic rundown of the differences between what this will be, versus the 70's version & modern reissue:

No Seth Lover pickups. The originals are certainly interesting as a novelty, but extremely overrated and way overpriced. I have a Tele Deluxe pickguard equipped with CTS pots with a SD Jazz in the neck and JB in the bridge. They're the covered versions (chrome with gold pole pieces). [EDIT: I don't mean to say the Seth Lover's aren't cool pickups in their own right. They are, and they're certainly unique. Having said that, they're also somewhat limited and there are a lot of other good sets of pickups that won't run you $800. .]

No 3-screw neck micro-tilt hardware. This is was just a bad idea, the typical 4-screw plate design is going on here.

500k CTS pots. The original had 1meg pots, the (RI for whatever reason) comes with 250k pots.

Neck features. Maple/maple CBS of course. Going with the compound radius, and the new Warmoth/Earvana nut. I just got into the DIY Earvana's a few months back and love them functionally but didn't care for the look - Warmoth's new compensated nuts solve that problem, and thankfully they install them.

Locking Schallers. Going out of tune might be vintage and retro cool, but it sounds like ass.

Floyd Rose whammy system. I need this for dive bombs and... no, no, I'm just kidding. It'll be a normal flat mount.

Color. It won't be quite a "natural," but more somewhere between natural and trans yellow. Greg and I will sort out exactly what that means as we go.

No tummy contour. I guess I could have included one just as easily, but in the end I decided to keep the wood. Plenty gets removed in a TD rout as is.

Looking forward to seeing this beast - thanks again Greg!

Sorry about the wall of text, I know it's hard to read with this site's color scheme.

OK. That is beautiful, man. It looks like a guitar that, despite the care it got, still ran into the inevitable accident every now and then. Not like a brand new guitar that some demi-moron held against a belt sander.

Bit of trivia :-

The Wide Range Humbuckers in Tele Deluxes and Customs use individual magnet polepieces as opposed to bar magnets in more conventional Gibson type humbuckers.  Also instead of using Alnico magnets, Seth Lover prescribed Cunife (Copper/Nickel/Iron) magnets which were more cost effective as dictated by CBS execs.  Regardlessly, these humbuckers gave out a unique tone which is now very recognizable for bands with rhythm guitars at the forefront like Coldplay, Radiohead and Sonic Youth.

Anyone remember Jonny Lang, Tab Benoit or even Buddy Guy with his Polka Dot Deluxe ?
