Does Warmoth automatically include neck screws?

What the hell did I just read? did you guys just flip out at a noob because he thought free screws with the purchase OF A NEARLY COMPLETE GUITAR was outlandish?

they're freaking screws. When I fix a car or bicycle I eat the cost of grease (and sometimes various nuts, bolts and washers) because I just got paid a large mark up on both labor and parts.

I see nothing wrong in terms of profitability to give away, Or sell a severely discounted screw kit when a FULL guitar is purchased at once.

I see no great effort in grabbing the appropriate screws for a specific build each time either.

On one hand I don't see this as something Warmoth NEEDS to do. but if someone spends 1,000 to 1,500 dollars on my services and products I can see it being incredibly affordable to give them a whole 11 dollars worth of screws. though I imagine the costs to Warmoth would be considerably less.

On some sort of Mutant, Total Recall THIRD hand. I do also imagine that Warmoth fender contracts preclude blah, blah, blah.

I agree, if someone just threw down $1500 for a neck, body, 11 cents worth of screws isn't going to break any budgets.. :dontknow:

It's not really the cost of the parts. It's the slippery slope you create by including them. Where does it end? They're a parts supplier, not an instrument or kit maker. If you need screws, you buy 'em. If you need pots, you buy 'em. If you need knobs, you buy 'em. And it's not their responsibility to know what you need.

They are incredibly understanding, though. Been more than once I've forgotten some minor item, and somebody's thrown something in an envelope and posted it because it would never make the $25 minimum order, or be worth the trouble of boxing/shipping and using up somebody else's time.

Incidentally, Carvin's the same way. I'm not even going to tell today's story about those guys, but rest assured, they're a great company to do business with.

Like I said, I certainly don't need them to. But it's not something I WOULDN'T do for my customers.

That being said I still can't believe they've not updated neck finishes in the online order forms two semesters I was away from this forum. And that they got rid of Neon.

The neon finishes turned out to be UV light-sensitive and faded really fast, so they're working on a different formulation. I don't know what the hold-up is on the neck builder, but if you look around a bit you'll see they haven't exactly been sitting on their asses drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. They've got a very nice filter now that lets you hone in on what interests you pretty quick, and it's a substantial change. I know from many years of writing software that it can be surprising how much work a seemingly simple change can be, plus there are always priorities that don't always match up with expectations. So, maybe cut them some slack.

I'm in the 'why would they come with the neck' camp. What someone might want/need does vary from person to person. For instance I used neck inserts so I didn't need screws at all I needed bolts, and wanted stainless steel and since I had a contoured neck heel, I needed two different lengths. I'm glad Warmoth doesn't include them because I end up with enough extra small items as it is.

Knowing what to order the first time is a bit daunting. But it's easy after the first build. What REALLY helped me was stumbling across a small parts house that gets orders out the same day and is only about 90 miles from where I live so items get to me overnight for standard shipping rates, which happen to be very reasonable from this supplier anyway. That really helped for those small things I didn't think of.

Cagey is right it is a lot like ordering computer parts. Scratches head thinking... lets see I need some RAM, a hard drive, a heatsink and fan, a couple of case fans . . .

It ends right there. with a promo on screws. that's where it ends. real easy. just have the screws on promo, As Needed and you're done.

screws are where it starts and ends, because the indefinite "it" you behave superstitiously about is screws. flipping screws. there we go. free screws. it is now defined. it starts and ends with an affordable and miniscule loss in profit that will most likely amount to less than a days pay over an business year.

That's fine. But I want free tuners, too. And not some stamped beer can pieces of shit, I want locking Sperzels or Schallers. I mean, what good is a neck without tuners? How can they sell a neck without them? It won't kill them. A set of tuners costs less than a day's pay. They can eat that over and over and never get full.

You know how some businesses sometimes give "buy one get one free" on stuff? It's not a slippery slope then, is it? People don't go in saying "well, I want to buy one and get TWO free" and somehow cause a problem with the business because it's such a slippery slope.

I'm not saying they should give away free screws at all, I expect to get what I ordered and nothing more, and in fact if they did give me free screws, I probably wouldn't want them because on my next build they're gonna be black. I'm just saying that the reason they don't do it isn't anything to do with a slippery slope.
