Do I just get the creeps too easy, or is this really creepy?

That is a good point; when everyone else is mediocre, even being slightly better makes you a stand-out.

Edit: This is certainly true of my Men's League hockey career. :icon_biggrin:

I think 2 compentent winders would get the same results and would not be any different form each other. Now me and a compentent winder that is a different story.

Just my thoughts

My point exactly.

Should we bring in some 911 conspiracy theories just to stir the thread up more? :occasion14: :occasion14:

Given the ethnic composition among semi-skilled southern California factory workers, you might do better with a Mexican Death Cult kinda thing.

You know, with those cute little sugar skulls.

Elfro Abby pickups are available at the same price others are. As a matter of fact there are some that are $100 less than boutique pups. You're statement about being able to tell hers by listening to a clip is just silly. Can you tell anyone's pickups just by hearing a clip? No. C'Mon dude if you're going to chime in say something with substance.

I think my statement has plenty of substance, as you just said the point I was trying to make does that make your statement equally as worthless in your own eyes? :P You can't tell who wound them so who gives a rats ass who did, what difference does it make?

So, this lady aside, what the heck makes a "good" pickup? I see people raving about inexpensive GFS pickups ... and then there are those who preach the gospel of three-times-more-expensive (at least) boutique pups.

Elfro do you really not get it? It's not about who winds them. It's about how they sound. Her pickups are sought after because of the tonal characteristics. The name of the person that does it is secondary but in this case she rose to fame based on the quality of her work. She has earned a reputation so people seek her wares. It's not a new concept. Did I really need to clarify that for you? I have the feeling you are just wanting to argue with me. Just PM me so we don't clog this thread.

For me, my guitars are purpose built for the most part. Each guitar I build has a pretty specific job so it must reflect that. Everything about it from finish to hardware is based on its purpose. I choose the pickups along that criteria as well. Generally I know which effects and amps are going to be used so that stuff gets taken into consideration as well. So I guess a pickup is only as good as the way it is used. You need to know the abilities and limitations of a pickup and operate whithin those parameters. This is true of all your gear. I have heard some really nice GFS stuff and I have heard high dollar boutique stuff that I wouldnt buy at a GFS price. Basically you need to know what you are looking for in a pickup and if you find one that meets your expectations then that's a good pickup.

I agree pablo, last guitar was going be played through my AC30 and have P90s, I like the clarity of the Lollar P90s, and the way they can carry the gritty distortion around the edge, a lot of P90s I heard when shopping sounded too fat, like a humbucker. The ones I wind are to clear. guess I do not have the touch I like to hear.
the project I am starting now, (got body soon to order paint and finish) I want that custom shop twisted Tele neck pickup so I order the same pickup they put in their 50s heavy relic they use the twisted Tele in. Guess what the set is around 160, Cheap by a lot of standards, and will have the sound I want without going boutique.
I like the Klien Tele Pickups also, but they distort to fast. and a set of those cost close to 3 Bengamin's. It is not the cost, it is the sound.

I'm trying to decide on the pups for my Jazzmaster, the body and neck of which haven't even arrived yet, but I feel lost in a sea of options.

They don't allow that type of discussion here.
I was watching a show today about all the conspiracies, was laughing my head off at the idiots, and thought I would post that just to see what kind of reaction it would get

Asking questions does not make one an idiot. Not getting satisfactory answers to those questions does not make one an idiot.
The G########t has lied to us before. It's not a new concept.

Don't turn this thread political and get it locked too, and members banned.

I'm not instigating an argument with you at all pablo.  :icon_scratch: I'm disagreeing with certain ideas put forward.

The concept put forward was that her methods and instinct of winding a pup made her pups unique and sought after by musicians for how they sound. I'm challenging this idea, if her pick-ups genuinely are unique and have her mojo put into them, surely you could hear this mojo at work and identify exactly what it is (in terms of what you hear) that make them unique. I put it to anyone that if I was to get sound samples of her pick-ups and then similarly did the same samples with totally difference sets, you would not be able to identify her pick-ups outright. So that effectively would mean that you can't hear her uniqueness at work which makes who wound them meaningless.

In my opinion as long as a pup works the way a good one should with all the responsiveness and clarity you expect, who cares who wound it?

I understand that sitting at a desk all day and not stretching your legs can lead to long term problems and also be extremely uncomfortable, but my question for seymour would be 'is it mandatory and if not, am i free to do something else :guitaristgif: ' ?

Also can they not design a CNC program in the 'digital' age that messes 1/32 (for example) winds for that 'handwound' feel?

BTW love SD pickups.

Black korina SG
Alnico II pro - neck
Duncan distortion - bridge

any thoughts?
