Sound amazing... anyone interested or tested this pups?

Paul always looks like he has the time of his life no matter what he does, I love that! Not quite my kind of tone though.

And it's really hard to tell what the Injector sounds like without some kind of baseline comparison with any other pickups. Yes it sounds good but there's no context so it's really hard to judge it. But hey, that's always the case with these demos and is no reflection on guitar/pickup/player as such.

hm, thought he was stuck on the Area 67's. either way, Paul Gilbert's finger control continues to absolutely blow my mind.

I an torn. I think they sound great, for the genre they represent
but I am a Jazz Blues guy and love to hear the tubes break up more than the fuzz from over wound pups
Do not get me wrong, these are quality pickups and you can hear how smooth they make the amp go, I really like that. But I would rather have a set of TV Jones

i was thinking that they sound awfully thick, then he explained that it was shortscale tuned down with .011s and obviously it was a fat sounding wood for the body and probably the neck. i was like ahh that's because he wants it to sound like that. they seem great for what he is doing but how would they sound in a standard tuned strat with .010s where there is more harmonic content?
how much is it the pickup and how much is it the setup? i think there isnt enough to judge based on that video. obviously singles can be great for a fat sound without mud but how do those particular pickups work in a more traditional single coil application. do they quack in the 2/4 positions?

Cool, love that guitar design, pickups sound good.

(BUT, Whats up with his voice, ;)  he sounds like he has an infection in his tounge?)

I like the sound (or what is in this video anyway) sounds kinda crisp and thick at the same time without sounding muddy. It'd be interesting too see what they'd sound like in a hollow body.

Ya know, for all the iceman talk I never knew Ibby did a 'Fireman'. Not normally into wierd for the sake of wierd body shapes, but I'll have to consider this if I ever do a firefighter themed guitar.

1. I really liked the sound there. Not vintage, of course, but crisp.
2. I like the Fireman.
3. If I were to pick up shred... I'd want to do the Paul Gilbert style.

sounds awesome to me. and i actually love the look of that guitar. and the design - "fender" style electronic configuration in a "gibson" style build.

too bad they're SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS

he said they're coming out with a mass produced affordable model. definitely interested to see how much they'll sell for, although i don't think i'd be interested

and i REALLY REALLY like how these sound. how would they sound in a swamp ash 24" scale guitar? hmm...

EDIT: and i don't think he switches to the neck pickup in that demo (might have really quickly and i missed it, but didn't hear it) but this demo shows the neck position starting about 25 seconds in or so. sounds great still! obviously his set up could be anything with all that equipment behind him, and it's a 25.5" scale ash (i think?) guitar with a maple neck. STILL, it sounds great i think. dammit, i love these things...

I love Paul Gilbert, he seems to be just about the coolest damn guy in the world.

On a more on topic note, I love the fireman, it looks really cool. I didn't even know that they did sell it, I thought it was just his personal guitar. Sounded awesome though.

Paul is great.

I like the idea of the Injector in the bridge position, but I think he should have stuck with the Area 67 in the neck position. He still has it in the middle.

According to Dimarzio the differences between the Area 67 and the Injector Neck are pretty big.

Area 67 - out of 10
Treble: 9.5
Mids: 4
Bass: 3

Injector Neck
Treble: 7.5
Mids: 7
Bass: 6

BUT to be honest I think Dimarzio just kind of pulls numbers out of their asses for their Tone Guide. Also, they have sound clips for both pickups, but if you look over their Sound Bytes they recycle the same songs for multiple pickups... So I really don't think that's very reliable either.

Yeah, recycled bites tick me off.

as do the lack of sound bytes for strat sized humbuckers.

'Ever noticed that all the sound clips on the Seymour Duncan website sound like the same pickup?

:laughing11: I've always thought the same thing, but just figured I wasn't "tone-savvy" enough to know the difference.

Apparently, the injector is just an overwound Area 67. The over winding boosts the lower & mid frequencies while reducing the highs. It's a great PU for those who want a fatter single coil sound. I also really like their Heavy Blues PUs as well.
