I think you all know this story...there was a showcase Jaguar body I was coverting months ago, but it was a little too rich for my blood at the time. I just saw it discounted on the deals page and had to snap it up.
The thing is, because I'd passed it over ages ago, I had already moved on with my builds. I have a solid-body 12-string with HBs that's ready to go to the guitar shop for final spit and polish, a P90 Jazzmaster Baritone just awaiting the neck (all else is done), and I just a month ago grabbed a cheap as Thinline from the deals page that will get some TV Jones Gretsch-type treatement.
Those builds covered the territory I really wanted access too, so I'm not really sure what pickup ground I can cover with the Jaguar. It has a universal Jag routing, so there are a number of possibilities, I'm just seeking some inspiration.  I'm not a fan of thin Strat sounds and the thinine will give me the nice clean shimmer I was after, so even the Jaguar pickups aren't that favourable.

So yeah, I didn't need it, but I was so in love with it before, that it was just too nice for this Indie fan to give up!  Would appreciate any pickup advice? Player alternative/Indie type music.

I have the distinct impression that Jags sound pretty different from str*ts - differing scale length and pickups -, so maybe a regular strat would work well? Otherwise mixing pickups could be interesting, say a Firebird pickup in the bridge and a Jag pickup in the neck position for example.

Edit: for a guitar that does something completely different, try a Sustainiac/Sustainer?

I don't know anything about Jaguar routings, but...you mentioned a P90 baritone, and also mentioning having the thinner, and more shimmery sounds already taken care of.  What about (if they fit) some slightly warm-wound Fralin P90s?  With the more Gibson like scale, its not going to sound exactly like Townshend on Live at Leeds but it will get you in the ballpark.  Big, raucous single coil tone with lots of girth, able to clean up marvelously with the volume control.  I've got a pair of Fralin P90s in a swamp ash jazzmaster and it is probably my most versatile guitar.  It doesn't do heavy metal all that well, but from funk to Led Zeppelin it has it covered I think.

Those are some good ideas! I've always wanted to try a sustainer but they do sound like a pain in the butt to fit. I guess that's what guitar techs are for ;-> And I do like P90s, so I'll check out the Fralins.

I think Sustainiacs are easier to fit since they don't have a great big circuit board to fit in the control cavity. I really want to try one myself... :)

LOLLAR P90. The ultimate pickup, really. He also makes real-spec jazzmaster pups in a range of winds, or real jag pups too I believe - which I think are not the same as strat pups. No I've never used Fralin, i'm sure they're good too. Nice body.

How about some overwound humbuckers, or split rail single coil sized, or double lipstick style HB PUs?  You could wire them up with spin-a-split pots and dial in anything from super thick to pure single coil.  Then add add in a phase switch to the neck pickup and you could also get Peter Green type phase cancellation.

Or a set of Bardens, maybe try some Lace pickups.

Or a mid boost pre-amp.

Seems a shame to not use all those control cavities...
