Dick Dale/Tarzan Fail....

I finally received the inspiration for this stratocaster; the leopard scratchplate for my Dick Dale tribute build yesterday...It was not exactly what I was expecting from the pix online, a lot more greenish and a lot less silver & gold.

Because of this, I've been debating ditching the Tarzan idea and building it with the cool combination of white pickguard/maple neck like the Eric Clapton...cuz those look beautiful.

However, I guess I've decided to forge ahead with the original vision; at least I've never seen anything close to this build and it will end up in the ballpark of the freaky tiki-ish vision I started with.

Next step is I think a nice 59 roundback, dark rosewood/quartersawn maple neck with a right handed reverse headstock...could be years before one shows up on showcase.

I'm thinking black for the pickup covers and knobs...anyone thinking cream would be better?

BTW...The girl who took my phone order at pickguardheaven.com was pretty cool...gave me a little good-natured rock'n'roll attitude about my oddball selection...but was really helpful.  I was gearing up to explain the reverse angle thing with the bridge pickup, no sooner were the words reverse bridge out of my mouth when she says "why don't we just make it to the VooDoo strat specs?"...I hadn't even remembered the Jimi strat thang...perfect!

I got the idea she might be the one making the guards too, mine looks great...I mean quality-wise.

If you order it in the builder, they will make it :)

When asked, "How did it feel to fail 200 times trying to invent a vaccine for polio?", Jonas Salk, the inventor responded: "I never failed 200 times at anything in my life. I discovered 200 ways how not to make a vaccine for polio."

Inspiring and appreciated...I'm sure I'll be the one to invent the guitar that cures cancer.

Aim low, so you can rack up some successes - invent a guitar that cures country music <grin>

Depending on your definition of "country music," I'm either high-fiving you, or gettin' my Irish up...

I'd go the Clapton route if I were you. A single-ply black pickguard would look great on there, too. And as an owner of two right handed reverse strat necks, I fully endorse that idea as well. Forge ahead!

I guess I prolly should go the EC aesthetics.  The pickguard just doesn't meld with the body...thought it would work with Shoreline Gold as a backup option, but it only seems to like Vintage White or Black....took a gamble and lost.
If I had have been fast enough on the trigger to nab that flame maple quartersawn 59 roundback reverse that disappeared before I got home from work last week...
