You know, isn't this just an active pickup with an active EQ?  Couldn't you just do the same thing with a parametric setup in the guitar's controls?

Yeah, Mayfly, that's all it is.  You run get busy and hook it up real nice like they did MMmmmmk?

Actually, one thing that I'm into is active EQs for powered loudspeakers.  I design the circuits and layout the PCBs.  To be honest a lot of it is textbook stuff.

Oh, good.  Well then this pickup stuff should be a snap for you then.  I'm sure you're well versed in designing micro sized PCBs with surface-mount components, as well.  I've done a bunch of that in my ham radio work, QRP (5 Watts and under).  Takes a MIGHTY steady hand and ninja soldering skills.  Show us what you can do, tough guy.  If you can build a better mousetrap, thrill us with your acumen.  I'll buy yer stuff if it's worthy.  :glasses9:

Buddy - what's up with all this?

I hope this is just lighthearted "ball busting" and no more.

No need to take this into a disrespectful context.

But of course!  No disrespect intended.  I am a shameless smartass (inherited from multi-generations of the same).

I can relate, but I do think the set screw or indent options are nice so that you can lock it in once you get there.

All tweaky and practice! :tard:

From what I can see it looks like the knobs control the resonant frequency & the "Q-value".
I take it that the "Q-value" is the broadness of the sweep of the EQ?
A low "Q-value" would imply a spike effect of EQ while a large value would imply a flatter , more rounded sweep?

This sort of adjustable control does seem like the basis of the parametric EQ. But I'm not clear if this pickup is an active pickup (with presumably an active resonant freq & Q-Value adjustment + & -) or passive (with simple cut filters in place)...  :dontknow:

Having been through the mill with EMG pickups on 3 Warmoth builds & then having to go back to a mix of passive pickups with EMG technology after the pickup stage (costly exercise believe me), I'm reluctant to take up the challenge with Dialtone or any other new pickup manufacturer! I'm happy where I have got the 3 builds to, got decent tones from them and THAT'S IT! But the concept that Dailtone have put forward is interesting & I will happily watch from the sidelines as this develops.

As you said, but the other control is output, which I could find highly useful when matching relative outputs between the neck and the bridge.  This has my interest piqued particularly as they have a single coil voiced/sized pickup in development.  I can get the chime I want out of a neck position single coil easily enough sometimes, but getting it to match the output of the bridge pickup while retaining that chime and not getting all creamy like the tone pot is rolled back is a challenge.

I am still awaiting my order.  Spoke with Tory.  There has been a delay in production.  Will update when I get the pickup and get it installed.  May be a while, though.  Waiting on that custom finish soloist from W.

I'm also waiting to see how these develop. I'm not yet sold on them being able to duplicate every pickup out there.

Well, I gave up on them and got a refund.  They do say "6-8 weeks" on their website, but I was told initially by Tory it would likely be 2 weeks, then there were production issues and so forth.  They were very kind about it and excellent communicators and top notch customer service, just no product.  I'll probably try again, when they actually have them in stock.

That could be a wise move. I ordered some special run new equipment (not music related) one time that was supposed to take 12 weeks. It took a whole lot longer and wasn't worth the money or the wait.

YEP.  Gimme another idea.  Something exotic, rare, strange, odd, but ROCKIN.  Something badass.

Somethign exotic, rare, strange, but ROCKIN?

How about our brother, TroubledTreble's, new offering.  Reminiscent of a pickup made by a highly litigious company whose name rhymes with Schmickenbacker, if I understand correctly.  Ken does great work.

Actually the pickup it resembles was made by Teisco. Only the exterior is similar. The internals are my own.

I give you.... the face only a mother could love :tard:... IMO

Is there a demo video of these?

Not yet. I just released these a week or two ago. Working on it though.

*BTW, I have met the Dialtone folks and they are very nice people. I would feel comfortable doing business with them. They are working hard and are very committed to their product.

It takes a bit of time for a startup to get some traction, and the only way to get some traction is to have some stock ready to go.  Not easy being a mom&pop shop.
