Custom Paint Job

Does anyone know if Warmoth would do paint on a body like this for me? Thinking of a Warmoth mahogany carved soloist body - black on the back. Clear Koa top, with a slight black overburst. All sealed in clear gloss.

Was also thinking black on the back of the neck, with a Koa peghead veneer, and a slight overburst (same as in the pic)

As mentioned this will be a Warmoth mahogany soloist body. Thinking of an angled strat headstock

Don't know what wood type is on that Petrucci, but Brown or Amber Dye on Maple, Trans Brown or Amber on non-Maple might do that effect.  They will do burst matching on headstock veneers and the rest is just a black back with black burstover on the edges, same with headstock.  And yes, they paint neck backs black.

Tonar has taken on a couple really cool custom jobs. i bet he'd be willing to do this if warmoth won't

its a flame koa top...

if it's just black burst, I would guess that they'd be willing and able to do that . . . but as stated before, not sure how they run on dyes, or on finishing neck backs for that matter . . .

On the site:  http://www.warmoth.com/Paint/NeckFinish.aspx

"We can match transparent colors, solid colors, dyes and bursts only when we spray the body and the neck at the same time. We cannot match a new finish to a pre-existing finish. The body and neck must be the same woods to match their finishes. Dye or burst peghead finishes require a figured maple pegface veneer and a matching body being finished at the same time. Please be advised that: We do not have nor do we apply Fender decals or any other decal "in the traditional name place" of Fender pegheads."

"Metallic, Candy, Dye or Burst color on the peg face with your choice of different finish on the back. *Only necks with figured maple peg veneer and a matching body may be dyed or bursted"

I've seen them do other peghead veneers besides Maple.

I think dying would apply to Maple only, but bursting would probably extend to other peghead veneers.  Call 'em.

Yep cool, no dying involved here. Black on the back, clear on the top with a slight black over burst  :toothy11:

They will do that, im sure.

Man that is one nice a$$ guitar. I cant wait to see if you follow through with this :icon_thumright:

Just get a falmed koa topped soloist with a tiger eye finish... :dontknow:

Just got an email back from Bob. They can definitely do exactly what I am looking for. I will follow this one through.

Why get tigers eye when you have a beautiful piece of wood like this? I'm going with clear gloss

OK, body and neck ordered, it is happening I'M EXCITED.  :icon_biggrin: Went with the warhead angled Peghead. it just seemed to warrant it.

Has anyone here tried installing the Graph Tech Acousti-Phonic Piezo system?

It seems pretty awesome, all the clips I have heard sound unbelievable, and you can get it here in Australia for a pretty reasonable price right now.

Oh hell yes :headbang:

so I keep looking at that petrucci and thinking "boy, I'd hit the sh*t out of that switch above the knobs on heavy chord rips". I have a hard enough time steering clear of the volume knob on my strat, lol.

Looking forward to your build, the black burst > clear gloss will be beautiful.

I've installed the Graph Tech system. On a Koa-topped guitar, oddly enough.

It's a very straightforward install, standard disclaimers about patience, safety and double-checking apply. The instructions are good, and I think there are videos online. The saddles are color-coded so it's easy to be sure you get it installed properly.

Did you get the preamp?
