good call! i remember that song was EVERYWHERE (like hinder's song... whatever it was called, you know the one). i thought the song was ok until i heard a rumor it was about his mom :sad1: true or not thats just a little weird... but putting that out of your mind it's definitely got some deep meaning.

this song has never made me cry, but i have totally teared up listening to it. a friend of mine knew the band, which made it just a little bit more real. the singer's (i believe) girlfriend had died in a car accident, and this song is what came of it. i'm not a big valencia fan, but this song is pretty amazing i think

This is super depressing.. but I am not sure if it still is if the words don't make sense :)
I think he is like the dutch equivalent of Eros Ramazotti or something, and I don't think it is acceptable in Holland to like his music ...  I am curious to hear what Baskruit or the other dutchies' thoughts are on this..
anyway, I really only know 3 or 4 songs of him :)

This will make me sound unfeeling  :dontknow:.. I don't cry when I listen to music, even if I hear songs that I've heard during burial-ceremonies. I've been raised by my parents to not cry. I mean, i can start crying while laughing, but there are only a few occasions where I cry, like the death of knew, or someone close to me. Another occasion was my visit to the concentration-camps in Poland. Maybe when I get older I will find a song that makes me cry, but I have yet to experience something like that.
 
there's a few that get to me. not to the point of crying, but are sort of depressing. there's a few more, but I can't remember them at the moment.

also, "Can't Stop Me Now" by Queen reminds me of an ex...playing during first kiss with her, and all that...good song, but the memories attached to it blow ass.
 
This one always takes me back to one night when my sister and I were in her room listening to this. At that time she was fighting anorexia and had already been into hospital twice.
At the end of the song she said to me "If I don't beat this, promise me you will play this at my funeral?" So that's why this song makes me so emotional.

Thank the lord she finally managed to beat it and has made a full recovery

Anyway enough of that, to the song  :icon_biggrin:

Well, Marco Borsato is one of the most popular singers over here and has fans in all classes of society. Of course not everybody likes the pathos of some of his songs but he has my respect. Great singer, well crafted songs, top notch musicians.
My band even covers one of his songs.

steve grimmett has the vocals of a norse god. its as if his vocal chords are made from the purest white hairs of the rarest species of unicorn and strung by fallen angels. i weep a little each time he suggests making me an offer I CYAAAAAN't REFFFUUUUUUUSSAH! reaper are epic.

never heard of the singer, but I think I heard that song before, by a guy.. not sure what his name was.
it is pretty good though :)
is there any more recent Borsato songs you could recommend? I have been away for 13 years :(

I have a secret guilty pleasures / sentimental playlist on Grooveshark with Dutch songs from the 80s and some 90s. never was into it that much back then, but quite enjoy them now..
it has some Doe Maar, Goede Doel, Dik hout, Herman Brood and some Marco Borsato, and some other stuff  it gets me in a good mood (don't tell anybody!)

Hearing Freddie Mercury sing his heart out, giving 110%, knowing the whole time he's dieing of AIDS.   I can't listen to it without starting to tear up.  The lyrics are just so prophetic

"Empty Spaces... What are we living for..."  :'-)

When he hits those high notes you can hear him strain due to his sickness, yet he still pushes through.

Amazing song, amazing talent. RIP Freddie.

An often overlooked song in the Queen catalog, I think mainly because it was released right after Freddie died.  Happens to be one of my favorite songs and sometimes it can choke me up and some of Dr. May's best guitar solo work is found on this one

Another song that does it for me is the Grateful Dead's "Standing on the Moon,"  I saw them play it for the last time, hearing Jerry almost choking up during the "I'd rather be with you"
 
this isnt really a song but a theme tune from a soap that used to be on, i must have been about 5 last time i hear his theme
