Crazy thought? Or not so crazy thought?

I got this gorgeous carved top Soloist body from the showcase around 2008.  It was a one-off mahogany back with a maple pinstripe and bloodwood top.  At the same time, Warmoth had two necks that were made from a "Bolivian hard-wood that did not require a finish."  The only headstocks available for them were the Warmoth headstocks.  Don't get me wrong, I like the Warmoth headstock, but for a Soloist-style body, I'm kind of partial to a Jackson or Kramer style.

I plan to use the neck on something else, but I'm not sure what, yet.  I'm going to post a couple of photos, then state a few ideas I have.

So, here is the crazy thought that I had.  I was going to have a neck made from either mahogany or flame maple to match the body back or the pinstripe.  The heatstock would be either Arcade ("Jackson") or Nomad ("Kramer.").  Then for the fretboard, I was thinking about bloodwood, which is a definite option, to match the top of the body.  I know inlays are things that people love or hate, but I was thinking about a either black sharkfins or a black nightswan.    My Photoshop skills are awful.

Cool?  Ugly?  Other ideas?

I think that the Bloodwood (Satine) would go nicely with that top.

I think you're trying to fix something that isn't broke. That's a mighty fine combination of woods/styles/pickups/etc.

But, if you must have the pointy headstock and want to get things to match up more consistently, I think I'd do an Ebony over Bloodwood. That is one fine neck. I have one on one of my VIPs, and love it.

The stuff is about as dense as Ebony and burnishes up ultra-smooth, so it plays like a dream. You'd end up with a color-matched headstock, but still have some contrast.

Crazy thought for my taste but if you want your guitar to have one color do it.

Imagine these strats without the pickguard, you will end up with a similar look.


By the way, Jackson have made many guitars with 3+3 headstocks. ESP have also done it with their Horizon models.

Looks good as it is to me too. If you are set on changing the neck because of the headstock, I'd think carefully about the bloodwood board - not only will it be different stock, it'll be unfinished too; it probably wouldn't really clash, but it's unlikely to match. I'll second Cagey's suggestion of an ebony board on bloodwood.

Is to start with Sharkfin inlays... a Floyd Rose and contoured heel and wait for it...










it has to be on a Tele body of some sort

Other than that the sky's the limit...

Fernando, I don't know if you remember, but you are the one who sold me on this body back in 2008... You posted it in the GAS thread, then it went missing.  Then it was like, who bought it.  It was me and i kept it a secret until after it arrived!    :icon_thumright:
