Craft guitar with nail polish

I remember reading something like prior to 1900 the acoustic guitar in America was a parlor instrument for women who couldn't afford a piano, and then with the advent of string bands with banjos, upright bass, mandolins, violins and even pianos and drums, the guitar was too quiet, then someone, I don't know who invented steel strings, and now the acoustic guitar could compete with other instruments.  This "new" instrument was rapidly adapted.  Martin guitars mass produced these things, along with Mandolins with an X bracing that made them stable, and you now had a rugged portable instrument that could make some noise.

I may be wrong on this, but that's how I remember it.

I'm really happy to hear more women playing guitar.  If everyone played the guitar everyday the world would be a better place.

That's my understanding as well.
It really took the creation of a more robust sounding guitar to make it popular--especially in the USA. Martin's Dreadnaughts were able to keep up with the other bluegrass/country instruments, and Gibson's big archtops, as well as the creation of the pickup helped the guitar supplant the banjo in jazz music.

Steel strings did make the guitar louder...they were a significant step forward. Even then, the acoustic was too quiet to compete with brass instruments in an orchestra.

The great equalizer was electricity.

That's when you finally saw guys like Charlie Christian taking solos in an ensemble.

Nice video!

I didn't see any fingernail polish in the finish of the guitar at all...

:icon_jokercolor:

I actually was thinking I was going to see a guitar painted with nail polish. But maybe that's just because I'm a woman.  :icon_scratch: :toothy12:

I also expected the guitar to be finished with nail polish.

Ditto here. Was kinda hoping there might be a new "Idiot Proof" finish out there I could use.... :tard:

I wonder if those little bottles of nail polish come in, say, Lake Placid Blue, or Olympic White? How many would it take for a semi-gloss finish? What applicator to use? Could it be sprayed on? How hard to do sunbursts with it? :laughing7:

Funny you should ask... I built a friend of mine a Lake Placid Blue Mustang a few years back and my sister came to check it out when I finished it up. Purely by coincidence she was wearing the matching nail polish. Had to get a picture of that:

Nice!!!

I had 2 of the Orange Mustangs in the 70s. Always liked those guitars, even before I knew you could get 'em finished in nail polish, hee hee.....

This just popped on my google news feed.  I noticed it was already referred to above.

Main take away is women are 50% of the first time buyer market.

I think she wearing nail polish to be filming on "TV " , not everyday when need to do sanding.

it a Bloomberg " MADE , craftsman in bossiness " series.  good for PR .
