I tried this for about a minute, but I wanted to ask if there is any technical problem with it.

I put a cable in the Line Out of my Fender Vibro Champ XD into the FX Return of my Carvin Nomad.

The gain and volume of Champ were about 3 (the number, not "o'clock"), and it seemed quite a bit louder than it "should be." Granted, I don't know a thing about what "should be."

It's tough to say. I looked up the manuals on both those amps, and they don't give you enough information.

I seriously doubt you'll hurt anything, but you may have trouble getting levels to match in a useful way.

Problem is, the industry isn't quite as standardized as it could be. "Preamp Out", "Line Out" and "Effect Out" (as well the complementary "ins") could all be the same thing, with the name changed to suit what the marketing weenies believe their customers are interested in for that particular piece of gear. It's done a lotta different ways. Sometimes they're buffered, they may or may not break the line, they may or may not be balanced, on and on.
