Hello everyone, I'm currently in the process of completely overhauling the electronics in my strat pickguard, that i plan on putting onto my warmoth strat i plan to build, but i had a few questions i wanted to check out here.

I'm going to a single volume knob and single tone control for the neck and mid pickups, (Lace Sensor Hot Golds) and the 3rd tone control is being replaced with an EMG strat presence control, and i'm also wiring in the EMG AB gain booster circuit,  :guitaristgif:

I'm considering a metal pickguard for a something a little different, does anyone have any experience/opinions about metal pickguards? will it color the sound/sustain significantly? any help appreciated. Thanks.

No material on Earth you could make a pickguard from could possibly affect the tone. Period.

Welcome to the board.

It could reduce hum, as it's a good shield.  Copper tape behind a plastic pg would do the same thing though.

Yeah i thought one would make a good shield, even though i already have a shielded plastic guard i think im gonna go with a  metal one nonetheless, if only for for the aesthetics. i think it'll be awesome on the silverburst strat i'm building  :icon_biggrin:

You going to make one or buy one? I've used several aluminum metal S-S-S pickguards on builds, onlt caveat emptor is that I had to do some filing to get SD HB in a SC pkg. pickups to fit; might not apply to your build, but have a jeweler's diamond file handy; you can get sets off Amazon for sround $20-25 bucks and they're handy for lots of things besides guitar building.

I'm just gonna buy a metal one, i'm no machinist and i would probably kill myself trying to make one, but thanks for the tip
