Aced my local audition for "MasterChef", the latest Gordon Ramsay cooking reality show yesterday, have to go in this evening for a videotaped interview, maybe I'll wind up on TV?

Dish is below, a Surf'n'Turf cold appetizer; "Chili" Steak Tartare topped with Absolut Citron-Thyme mayonnaise and capers, other side is a lump crabmeat salad dressed with blood orange tarragon mayonnaise and topped with a little Beluga caviar.

Wish me luck!

Mmmmmmm!

Do you deliver? :hello2:

Will that be a mayonnaise or Aioli? I have been tempted to start making Aioli, the possibilities are endless. Sounds great either way!

Man, Best of luck to you!

cooking shows are the best reality shows. but with gorden ramsey it doesn't get better. if you make it i look forward to seeing it. also you must have no shame or alot of confidence because as everyone know chef ramsey can be brutal. but i trust you're not an idiot like most on tv, or maybe then you are not what they're looking for. :dontknow:

Given what I know of Jack from this board, a meeting between him and Chef Ramsay would be very entertaining indeed.  Give him hell Jack, and congrats.

Brilliant!! good luck Jack!
I hope there will be a lot of swearing back and forth between you and Ramsay!

how is this show different to hells kitchen?

+1. Was thinking the same thing. No disrespect intended Jack, but I get the idea you don't take too much BS from people.  :cool01:

Australia had a first season of a MasterChef show that had amateur contestants housed up and competing from week to week with various challenges along the way. Due to my working hours, I wasn't able to catch much of it but the bits I saw were better reality TV than most. There's an elimination at the end of each week til it's down to the finalists. Our show had two chefs and one food critic as the judges. Surprisingly, they (the judges) were quite reasonable and not the grumpy Simon Cowell type of jerk you tend to get on these shows (there's usually one per judging panel). I'd expect someone like Ramsey to drill the hell out of contestants to get up to commercial kitchen grade, so they can whip up food quickly, then stand back and critique their weekly performances. I find Ramsey, FWIW, a reasonable food critic if you see past the swearing and all the hype about him being volatile. I mean, sometimes he has good reason for being so explosive - like when recipes go *ss up because someone didn't do what they were supposed to do, or wouldn't work within a team structure, or the menu was so appalling it could have been a health risk.

All the best Jack in your auditions! :icon_thumright:

+2. With all respect, and with all luck  :headbang:

I am not familiar with that show.  I am not sure if we get it around here, but I will certainly be looking for it now...
Yes, give em' hell Jack :headbang1:

Here's something you might try sometime just for the heck of it.  Try deep frying those capers you are putting on top.
Just throw em in the hot oil until they get crispy and then drain them on a paper towel.  Man, they are to die for !!!
Plus, it would give your dish another dimension of texture.
:rock-on:

UPDATE: NAILED IT! Went in for my 30 minutes video interview, and they wound up shooting an hour and 15 minutes of tape, partly because I got the asst. casting director in a couple of giggling fits so they had to retake a few of the "standard questions".  Ultimately the final decision will come down to the producer and I guess Gordon Ramsey, but it seems like I probably have at least a 50/50 shot of getting on, if not a little better. I have to make a short video of  "a day in my life" and submit it, they were interested in the fact that I play and build custom guitars and wanted that included.  Gregg - If I get on I'll be taking at least a couple of Warmoth axes with me, want to talk about product placement?

"Will that be a mayonnaise or Aioli?"
Technically, an aioli is a type of mayonnaise, but most aioli recipes do not include egg.

"I hope there will be a lot of swearing back and forth between you and Ramsay!"
Told them that having spent 5 years as an Army Infantry Sgt., I could no doubt out curse Ramsay any day of the week and more creatively as well.

"I am not familiar with that show.  I am not sure if we get it around here, but I will certainly be looking for it now.."
It's to be televised in North America on the Fox network. As noted above, "MasterChef" has been televised already in Australia/Britain; I don't know if the American version will be reshown in the UK/Australia, but most of Ramsay's shows get rebroadcast in other English speaking countries, like the original British version of Kitchen Nightmares and vice-versa.

Very cool Jack, I'll be rooting for you. Many of Ramsay's shows get aired here, I'll be sure to watch your episode if when it happens!

I'll take two, please.

Looks deelish!

Let us know if you get on TV, Wear a Warmoth T-shirt!

that reminds me, we need to print our own special unofficial Warmoth T-shirts!!
they should say something like: Unofficial Warmoth
