Color Staining Mahogany?

I am getting a Warmoth body in a week or so and I'd like some finishing advice. Guitar is going to be a Jazzmaster / Les Paul 'hybrid' build.

Specs:
Warmoth Superwide Neck - Mahogany
Warmoth Jazzmaster Body - Mahogany, maybe with alder top
Duncan JB in bridge position
Tune-o-matic / Stop Tail bridge
Chrome hardware

I thinking about a green finish and was wondering about staining mahogany with a tint. Has anyone seen / done this? I am not sure what it would look like as mahogany is a darker wood. If I can't find any info on it, I'll pay a little extra for an alder top and go for something like the Thurston Moore JM from Fender.

I was intending to do a rub on stain, like a Minwax or something similar, and then oiling it. What is the clearest choice for oil? Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Green on mahogany.... sort of iffy for a stain or dye.  A transparent finish would be better.

If you decide to stain it - there are green stains and dyes.  For oil - 100 percent pure Tung is almost water clear.

You might be better off just going with an entire Alder body if you want to do it all in green.  The grain is a little tighter on Alder (usually), so less of that to fill, and it will take the dye or stain very well.

Don't substitute mahogany for a lesser tonewood !!!!!!!!!
I stained my mahogany by combining two colors that were available in small amounts....like 1 oz botles. I wanted a redish-brown. I made sample mixes and applied them on scap wood until I was happy.
You could start with yellow or amber and blue.
First sand then fill with this -'LIGHT' version filler. Really easy.

When the filler drys ...do a complete sanding and when your done it should look just like it did raw....but all of the pores/grain will be filled.
Use a tack cloth to get all of the dust.
Then stain, lacquer...more lacquer.....more lacquer....(or poly)
I'll post a pic asap
