Still putting my goldtop LP project plans together and I think I've come up with a color scheme that will be a little different...

body is standard "goldtop gold" finish with dark brown back
black binding on body
chrome TOM bridge and tailpiece.
black pickup mounting rings (no pickup covers for SD APIIs)
black tone/volume knobs
ebony fretboard (as black as possible)

I kind of like the black theme, except for the TOM hardware.

I've never seen a goldtop matched with black.  Opinions???

Go ALL black to include TOM, if you're going to be different, go all the way, the LP mockup is down, here's that scheme on a Tele:

Gold flake sparkle with black hardware...... :icon_thumright:

Yup.. that's the one the plate is for.   It's been mentioned that I should go with black TOM instead of chrome.  At first I didn't consider that because my guitar instructor told me he once had a guitar with black bridge and he wore the black finish off and then it looked like he!!.  If the black finish will hold up OK on the Gotoh TOM then I'll seriously consider it.  But I have to make my mind up real quick if you're going to make that neck plate anytime in the near future.  I want the plate to match the hardware.

Anybody have a black Gotoh TOM brodge and tail piece?  Is the black finish durable?

Take your time to decide no need to rush yourself. But for what it's worth I have several guitars with black hardware and have never had any issues with the black wearing off...

I have a TOM that is black. It hasn't worn off at all yet. I've had it for three years. Of course I'm not playing gigs with it all the time getting sweat on it and wearing it down. Some people have a very acidic skin (RLW?) that can take the finish off of parts and destroy metal hahaha. I think that you could also take the chrome off of metal parts too. I think by the time you wear the finish of of a black TOM, the rest of your guitar is going to look pretty broken in as well so it won't matter that much.

My brother is that way, I don't let him play my guitars anymore, he would ruin my strings everytime he touched one... :dontknow:
