Cobalt guitar strings

I love them, but theyre also expensive. I teach so I go thru strings like crazy. I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys usually but the Cobalts just sound better and feel better.

I just installed a set so the jury is still out but I’ve read mostly positive things amongst the Respected Internet Guitarists of the world.  I read more than once that only the wound strings include cobalt, so I don’t know if this means the plain strings are good ol’ slinkys or ???

The wound strings have a dry, gritty (but not dirty) feel to them.  The plain strings feel fine (see above) and they all seem acoustically louder and brighter.  Haven’t had much time with them through an amp.

I have a set here, but I haven't put any on anything yet. My understanding is they're good strings, but are expensive, as has been mentioned.

Neo Fender, that is correct. Apparently they are making a new line that has something different on the unwound strings also, should be out later this year I hear. I've heard a few say the wound strings are now louder than the unwound? Guess I'll find out after final setup on my guitar...

Old dead thread but I've found them on sale and have gone through a couple sets. I like them a lot and will use them again. They do what they promise. More output and better note definition. They also sound very even and round and the string balance is great. Personally I think they are a nice upgrade to the slinkys I've been using forever.

Ernie Ball Cobalt guitar strings are made of a new alloy formulation that gives you higher output, better sound, and longer life. Cobalt strings' special iron/cobalt blend attracts the magnets in your pickups better than any other alloy....
AAARGH! sssssssssssssssssssssss...
....And when you plug in, you'll get increased power, beefy yet defined lows, improved midrange focus, harmonics, and sustain, and crisp highs. Try a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt strings - you're gonna love 'em!

In other words: All of your amp settings are WRONG, all of the things you've done to make a particular guitar sound great are WRONG, you'll have to re-jigger all your effects boxes, turn down the gain because Cobies gots HIGHER POWER, so everything you know about gain, overdrive and distortion and snugging that all important midrange into a band situation is now WRONG... but Slash likes them! And we all MUST buy what Slash tells us to because a quarter-century ago he played two damn fine guitar solos.

Boy, I bet those Stratocaster "wolftones" are going to get even worse because of that "increased attraction", only solution: replace all my pickups with weakies... I sure hope I never get caught out in Mongolia or some other place like that where I can only get regular Slinkies, cause then I have to do all that stuff up above here? ...backwards.. now I'm gonna halfta get me some of them silver-wound Zephery pickups too. whee...

(Kin I get 'em coated, yet? coated strings are better, right? :icon_thumright:)

When you cryogenically treat strings*, do you have to take them out and straighten them first or can you just throw the package into your 359 degrees below zero thingie? And, do you put the plastic coating** on them before you cryogenically freeze them, or should you do the freezing first? :icon_tongue:

*(they're better that way! Look at how great it's worked for Walt Disney's brain!)
**(They're better that way too!)

Whats cryogenics?  I don't really pay attention to Tom Cruise.  I'm telling you they just sound better in my Joe Bonamassa Les Paul with my Joe Bonamassa tuners and Joe Bonamassa knobs played through my Joe Bonamassa cable into my Joe Bonamassa pedalboard that goes to my Joe Bonamassa amp.  I like to play it while I'm sitting in my Joe Bonamassa chair on my Joe Bonamassa carpet in my official Joe Bonamassa guitar basement watching my Joe Bonamassa Edition Sony TV.  I can't lie though, my official limited edition Joe Bonamassa gold top espresso machine isn't living up to the hype and I think $800 was too much for it.  It looks cool though, and I bet my lattes are JUST like Joe's.

If it ain't Blue Steels...we'll then they probably didn't break in the first half of the song you played. I'll stick with my GHS boomers.

Once I get my string gauge figured out, I might throw some coated bronze on my acoustic. Because baby slobber kills strings deader you can say 'No don't eat that!'
