"Cliffs of Dover" Soundpage

That's very cool to hear the 1984 version, he definitely took a lot of chances and you can hear in contrast how much safer he played it on the official recording, but.......

I gotta say, that is one of the sloppiest, sooooooooooo far ahead of the beat, like he's not even listening to the rest of the band, performances I have ever heard from a pro in my entire life.  If I was EJ I would want that recordeing burned and lost forever down memory lane.

The whole thing sounds a like a teenager having sex for the first time and prematurely ejaculating for 5 straight minutes.

maybe it's just me.
:-)

BTW, he claims to have written "Cliffs of Dover" in about five minutes - sometime you're just given one.... overthinking and trying all the options can kill off a song, and Eric Johnson is a self-admitted, chronic serial overthinker. That's why it takes him ten years between albums. His 2006 DVD is really good; after all the obsessing over his signal chain, he's playing "Cliffs" on an SG, and it sounds just like... Eric Johnson! Amazing, that.... :o
