CLEAR Pickguards

Me 4?

I am confused to why you need a clear pickguard, why not just use a clear contact, Does the same thing and you can't see it.

But then again, i haven't seen it been used, so i'm open to some persuasion

What is a clear contact?
A clear sticker, but it comes in two foot wide 10- 15 feet long sheets, so it's easy to cut a piece out and you can waste a bit here and there.

I think the OP was talking about something like a clear acrylic pickguard that you could mount your hardware to like on a strat.

I had another idea about rear routed strats with a paint effect that looked like a pickguard. just a thought

A bit pointless on strats. If you want to show off the wood, just get it rear routed and if your worried about the finish being mucked up, then put on contact, unless you want to see the ugliness of the guitar innards.

But what i was referring to before is pick guards on LPs

for me, having a pickguard is just part of the look...

i started my build off with a squier fretless jazz bass that had no pickguard.
no matter how hard i tried, it just didnt look like a jazz bass without the pickguard.
(jaco's bass looked great, but his was worn in and had the pickguard holes and everything. on a "new" looking bass, it just looks plain IMO)
so for me the only way to show off the grain and have the pickguard, is to go for a clear one.

another cool use for a clear pg is to put something underneath it like in this picture.
i think that Gail Ann Dorsey has a picture on Marilyn Monroe under the clear pickguard on her stingray.

and i think that i saw someone here who painted the underside gold and got a really cool look from it.

A clear guard wouldn't work on a strat or a jazzmaster top routed body because the "guts" would be on display. But the back-paint, photo-mount, custom logo et al versatility would still make it worthwhile. Rear routed bodies could also benefit from the protection of a clear guard. A clear guard WOULD work on a top routed tele or jazz bass and look great with the standard control plates.........
speaking of which :icon_tongue:
When I built my lefty '54 P bass, I could not locate a left hand control plate anywhere so I used clear pickguard material with mirror backing.

Cool fix! I also love the strat! (Thought now would be a good time to say it. I'd been watching the thread for a while)

Thats very similar to an idea I had recently. I am having a guitar painted and we considered painting the underside of a clear pickguard. Having the painting protected where it could stay perfectly clean at all times would be pretty cool!

can't you just flip the control plate?

the screwholes are countersunk on the top....

...and the plate has a bevelled edge which looks like sh*t when it's mounted face down  :o

just a thought.....Warmoth probably wont do the clear guards because they would require more work to sand and polish the bevled sides of the arcyilc..remember they they make custom gaurds for everything.
