THIS MAY HAVE BEEN ON TOPIC BEFORE? ANY WAY..HOW HARD IS APPLYING A DIY CLEAR GLOSS FINISH TO THE BACK OF
Mahogany TELE Neck ?WILL IT COME OUT PROFFESIONAL? ALSO I MIGHT CONSIDER A TUNG OIL FINISH INSTEAD,, CAN THAT BE DONE? HAS ANYONE USED A TUNG OIL FINISH ON THE BACK OF A KOA NECK?

Caps lock = shouting.

1.) The search function is a wonderful tool
2.) The difficulty of a DIY finish on mahogany varies depending on you experience, available tools, and the type of finish you're applying.
3.) No one can tell you in advance if it will look professional or not.
4.) Mahogany should have a hard finish. Tung oil isn't enough to satisfy the warranty.  A popular choice is Tru Oil (there are many many topics on its use). Despite the name it is a hard finish unlike any of the other oils.
5.) I know there have been koa bodies finished in tung oil, but for necks it should probably have a hard finish. Check out the search!

I had very good success with Deft satin nitro on my mahogany neck I did. Very light coats, with 3-4 days drying time between coats. Followed by a working over with #0000 steel wool before each coat.. It came out glass smooth... Good luck.. :icon_thumright:

The figuring really pops in the light.

That's an unusual piece of Mahogany. Don't believe I've ever seen one like that before.
