Clapton Gold Leaf Strat Replica bod in the work

Golf leaf huh?    I hope it looks good when your done, cuz that wood you covered looked pretty nice to me.

Having never done any gold leaf finnish on anything, I dont know if it gets buffed and clear coated or what?  Will it be shiney gold when done?

it's not paint...It's actual 22kt gold leaf being gilded (glued) onto the body...I'm waiting for the size (glue) to dry..once dried, I'll shoot a couple of gloss/clear Nitrocellulose...then rub out..I'm thinking about doing the John Cruz's tangerine over gold leaf Strat version ... still deciding..

The trouble in deed is that I didn't understand the meaning of "gold leaf"... Is it GOLD in deed? :icon_scratch:
(I'm not american so some thing in english language is still unknown to me)

Nonsensetelle    I just came back from the local craft store, with the wife.  While there I checked the price of gold leaf

You can get 25    5 1/2" x 5 1/2" goldleaf sheets for 10 dollars. I think thats plenty to do a guitar,,  cheaper than I expected

nonsensetele - If you dont want to go thru all the hassle of gilding then you can get a jar of Pearl EX from jacquard, mix it into your clear and shoot..But you will not get the same texture and look of gold leaf...

alfang - Fender does sell gold anodized pickguard...and 10 bucks for a book of 25 sheet?..That's really really cheap..that's the lowest i've heard...at that price, make sure it's not imitation gold leaf...

hey Cn. I went to michaels craft store, they are a big chain out west, not sure how far they go.

I would have to double check, But I am fairly certain that it's real gold leaf, they had a wallspace about 4-5 feet long with all the glues and leaf, silver copper gold pewter too I think, and I did see some imitation stuff as well for about 4-5 bucks, I was looking at the most expensive stuff they had, I am sure it was real, but again, will double check. But even at 20 bucks I would still buy it and do a guitar with it.

I was looking for a book on how to do goldleaf, but didn't find one there.  I wanna finnish a guitar like that now, gold or silver with buffed clearcoat

If you know a good link to teach me, would be much apreciated, the cool part is I showed my wife the pics of your guitar, and she said I should do one like that.

I was shocked, she already says I have too many guitars, LOL  So thanks to you I have permission for a new guitar, rather than asking foregivness after the fact.

I will call it    my cn special  thanks    John

Alfang :  Great to hear your wife suggested you to build a GOLD one..It must be THE GOLD...It has got to be THE GOLD..  :laughing7: ...  I'm honored for your kind thought...
I hope this will help ... http://www.gildedplanet.com/gildingtutorials.asp ...

Tips:  seal the bod well so that it wont soak up the size...brush/spread the size thin and even...use cotton glove to handle the leaf...allow gilded bod to hang dry for at least 5 days before clear coat...and have fun ....

DONE..Tangerine Candy over Gold leaf it is..
