Chrome vs. Brushed Nickel

I'm going to be getting a couple pickups from Bare Knuckle and am trying to decide on the covers I want to get for them. I'm looking at either chrome or brushed nickel for a bridge and neck humbucker.

The body is the Warmoth VIP with DL Quilt Maple top with red dye, white binding and black gloss on the back/sides. I'm probably going for all black for the bridge and controls, so I'd like something that stands out. If I get chrome then I won't have any problem with matching chrome tuners on the headstock that will be all gloss black. The brushed nickel however looks pretty cool. The pickups are an Aftermath bridge and Miracle Man neck, in case anyone was curious. The neck of the guitar is going to be all black gloss with an ebony fingerboard.

Here's what the brushed nickel covers look like http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=20857.0

brushed nickel looks awesome IMO. i'm a big fan of anything that's not glossy. just make sure if you bother that you can match the other hardware first

:sad1: Ok, dNA . . . I hate to admit it, but I'm standing right in the middle of a 'clue-free' zone here.  In "text speech", what does "IMO" stand for?  ???

IMO = "in my opinion"

On-topic, brushed nickel is way cool, but as dNA said, it might be a little harder to find matching hardware. It's the same thing with Gotoh's "Cosmo Black" and Schaller's vintage copper.

I would say go with the brushed nickel. Only because its different and pretty damn cool. If you don't like it or if it doesn't end up working out you could always replace the covers with a much more readily available Chrome units.  :headbang1:

That's true, and given the pickups and the headstock are pretty far apart the contrast between the brushed nickel and chrome might not be that noticeable.

I found these but I don't know if they are compatible with the Warmoth headstock or not.

i dont think there is anything wrong with mixing hardware as long as it is done right. having diferent pickup covers from everything else isn't a big deal to me, but if the bridge and pickup covers match the tuners better match too. but i think nickel looks great on pickups regardless of the other hardware. i dont know if i can come up with a list of dos and don'ts but i think the pickups are safe as brushed nickel.

Yeah the brushed nickel look is awesome. I emailed Warmoth to see if those tuners will work. If so I'll have matched covers and tuners in brushed nickel.

When I ordered the tuners for one of my Warmoth strats, the company accidentally sent me brushed nickel instead of the chrome ones I had ordered. Not wanting to wait any longer to put the guitar together, I said "what the hell" and just went with the brushed nickel ones. Now, I think they look great and am glad I kept them. I think they have a very cool modern look to them. If that's what you have in mind, I'd go with brushed nickel.

While we are on this subject I need to say something. I absolutely hate the way a satin chrome Wilky looks on a strat with regular chrome hardware. The shiny output jack next to the trem is just so tacky looking to me. Every guitar I've seen like that just looks so wrong.oh and another thing...............the the Hipshot hardtail bridge just looks gross. Getting somewhat back on topic I don't mind mixing black and gold or black and nickel but that's just me.

I'm going to go with the black hardware on everything but the tuners and the pickups. I want to have the accent of the different "color" but the black keeps things from standing out and being as busy looking given the top laminate is going to be DL quilted maple with the red dye which is busy already. Basically everything other than the top of the guitar and the tuners is going to be gloss black, so most of the focus will be on the top of the body. Ebony fretboard with black gloss on the back of the neck and the headstock.

I got a "raw nickel" pickup cover on the Fralin P-92 I ordered; it gets a great patina which is easily wiped off, although now I'm kinda wondering why I bothered.  From now on I'm letting it get discolored
